Put some heavy gauge strings on it and rock out.

Congratulations!! Great find!!
:applause:

I love the Squier Mini — just a lot of fun! The older version has the recessed Strat jack-plate in the front but the newer ones don’t.

I bought one second hand for my son when he started learning a few years ago but I think I play it more than he does! I didn’t get quite such a good deal but still a great price from eBay (!). Took me a while to tweak the action and intonation as the setup was horrible when I got it (and I could understand immediately why the original owner gave up on it!) but once I’d got that sorted it plays just great — and actually has all the proper Strat single-coil tones, including the in-between quack!

I initially made the mistake of putting quite light gauge strings on it, thinking it would help my son’s little fingers to get to grips with it — but given the very short scale they were, of course, far too slack and impossible to keep tuned properly! I didn’t want to waste the new strings so I ended up tuning it up a full tone, which improved things no end and all I had to do was capo at the second fret to play along with him. Slightly heavier strings work well on the shorter scale.

With a Vox Amplug and the matching mini speaker cab chucked in the case (or something similar like the Fender mini-Twin) it makes a great compact little travelling guitar to take away on holiday. I love the fact that they bothered to make a proper (but relatively inexpensive) Fender gigbag to go with these!!

It’s no Custom Shop axe but there’s far more guitar to the Squier Mini than you might expect for the price!

All I need to do now is find somewhere local that imports the ESP Grassroots Mini Series. I’ve got the mini-bug and I seriously want one of their Mini black LP Customs...!!

Oh, and yes, I put a spare set of chrome Schaller strap locks on it too... (!)

:p

Playing with the big boys...

Thanks for the great post!!!! I told you guys about my modded Mini. That's the one loaded with SD Duckbuckers. The previous owner thought his Mini was worth it.

I played a Fender Squire Strat at a guitar show a couple of years ago. I loved it. But I forgot my wallet and couldn't buy it. And it was a Really Good Price, with a Hardshell Case, Floyd Rose, Single Humbucker

.. It was identical to this EVH guitar.. Except it was all Black.. I still wish I had bought it..

Got one of these for my kid too. They're a great value. Seems like a pretty solid little ax. Has taken a lot of abuse so far. And I appreciate that it's a real guitar, not some toys-r-us POS
