I sold my LP Standard R7 Goldtop to help fund my LP Custom R7. A Goldtop Les Paul is a guitar that I always want to have in my collection.

I picked up this ‘21 Standard ‘50s yesterday (traded another guitar) and this new guitar is in totally mint condition.

I noticed that the color of my new guitar is actually more “gold” than my recently sold R7 that appeared more “yellow-gold”, which I preferred. Guess that this minor color difference will grow on me.

I’m sure that the natural lighting between the two photos makes some of the color difference. The Standard ‘50s photo was taken this morning with overcast dim natural lighting and the R7 photo was taken on a bright and sunny day.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a difference in color. Look at any example of current production guitars and custom shop ones with the same finish name. Wildly different in most cases.

Which goldtop sounds better and plays better? I’m always curious about directly comparing USA standard models with reissues. Both guitars look pretty awesome to me!

And I’m sure any guitar sounds incredible through that old Magnatone.

Congrats, both fine guitars! I noticed the same color comparison with my R7 and 50’s Standard Gold Tops. The 50’s does appear to be a little more gold.
