Well, certainly not as epic as jstarr823s thread about a beautiful guitar no doubt but it is NGD which doesnt happen that often for me so
I received a 2017 Tribute Les Paul a couple of days ago. Ive owned several Historics, a Standard, old Deluxe and a Traditional so thats my point of reference I guess. Its very nice, gets the point across. Theres some things I like about it and a thing I probably dont love about it as much so heres some semi random thoughts:
The necks not all that Slim Taper to me, certainly not as much as a 2017 SG T I recently tried. I mean, its flatter in the back than what everybodys idea of a 50s profile probably is. Up by the first few frets where the rosewood board which is a slab no doubt, meets the mahogany, that could be a little rounder/smoother. Thats my main issue with the guitar & as I play it, it gets less noticeable to me. Its been mentioned to me & by the dealer also that, that is more prevalent in non binding guitars. I dunno, theyre obviously not all like that. Its not a huge deal, I can return it or not so I move on. The fret work is real nice, it plays really well and it could still be set up a little more to my liking but theres no fretting out anywhere. The frets feel kinda like 6105s but I dunno whats on it. I was going to get the 2016 50s Tribute but I think I got convinced that I dont want the dark back but like several say, whos looking at the back of their guitar while theyre playing it. Its not the most spectacular looking piece/s of mahogany but its decent.
Anyway its not a Historic but its an LP, its very solid and it does the thing. It can bring it & sounds nice clean if you back off a little. Pickups are pickups, everybodys got their faves, these are probably a little too hot(for me) but hopefully I can back them down some and tweak it and I mean who can be crazy about the electronics thing theyve gone to, I dont even want to look in there but it is what it is. It seems to play & stay in tune raelly well yay!!! Big yay on that. Its loud unplugged, I dont know if its the swiss cheese or however theyre cutting down the weight on these things these days but unplugged its pretty dang resonant loud & sustains big time but yeah you dont buy LPs to sit around playing unplugged. Its a cool guitar. If I get brave Ill probably try to buff it some, just for the heck of it.
So all in all, Im letting the good stuff outweigh the thing that Im not as crazy about and for the cash.
Thats my story, YMMV of course.
