So I have a question and please don't blast me for being lazy anyone. I looked on gibsons site and they show 500k v/t pots but nothing about wiring. Do the 2016 traditionals have 50s wiring? Or something different.

I know every post I've read people say modern but there also stating 500k and 300k pots so I'm not sure.

My 2016 Trad Plaintop had Modern wiring and 500K pots.

ok, i took a pic of the cavity (see below). Definite 500K pots and modern wiring.

What's the deal with the big metal plate though? Is it just easier for production to plunk all the wiring in like that?

It means they can assemble the electrical hardware and wiring remotely from the guitar, install it, and just make the connections to the jack. Much quicker. At least that is what I would think.

I think the plate is just how they can drop in all pots in one shot instead of one at a time.

Pick guard off but only because they just look cheap. Such a beautiful top then $2 plastic. There has to be someone selling ones that are made of a different material.

BTW, ended up naming her Scotch...as in butter"scotch" and, well, I love scotch (Macallan 18 to be exact).

Beautiful guitar. For what it`s worth, I`m with the "pickguard off" crowd, but you gotta decide what`s right for you.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

The Les Paul is an elegant guitar. It needs a pickguard to complete the look. A Les Paul without a pickguard is like a tuxedo without a cummerbund. It just looks incomplete.

That said, I use the pickguard for utilitarian purposes, like resting a finger on it when picking over the neck pickup. It aids precision. I don't use it to "protect." My pickguards are all almost pristine. I just don't "miss" much anymore. I just like the way they look. Acquired taste...

If you wanna show off the top, do it. It's your guitar. Make it yours.

Hey Joesym001 do you have a 1 piece back? I just got mine back from my friend who's a guitar luthier for his job... He pointed out that I had a one piece back and they were some of the nicest piece's Gibson has put out in awhile. But the setup was still dog**** for all thosel people signing off on the guitar, plus GC put 10's on for me and apparently they were already corroded and I got wicked string buzz about 5 days after having it, not sure if it just settled to my climate in my house or what. But now it's playing like a beast and I can't put it down.

Scotch, I'll be thinking of your guitar now. I'm known to have a good bottle on hand.

I noticed this on my 16 Trad. The Switch tip seems shorter, stubbier. I see pics all the time of LPs that seem to have switches that appear taller, and have switch tips that seem thinner and longer. Which leaves me like :hmm: .. Anyway..

On mine, I had to dremel out some of the switch cavity so that the switch would sit higher. It was flopping back to center from the neck position on its own. It was a little nerve racking grinding in there, but it worked and I didn't want anyone else touching my baby. :) I just took my time. I didn't notice it until I switched to my amber tip.

So the switch is the same length, it was just sitting lower.

OP:Nice find!
