Here’s my new R8, it’s in red light sometimes. The other photo with 2 guitars shows it on the left with my r9 on the right, the r8 has a smaller neck than the r9. Weird.

The flecks got me. I’ll try to get some daylight shots. These such

I think that R9 is freaking killer, but the new R8 is a rock star as sell. Nice set of Les Paul's.

Here’s one with a good example of the color. My stupid IPad has such a poor camera you can’t even see the flecks. The whole top has a nice even smattering of pretty freckles. I’ll tr again with a different device.

My favorite things about it are, a neck that’s slightly smaller than most pre-2017 R9s (it’s an R8), and it’s only 8lbs 2oz! I didn’t know they made small neck r8s in 2015. I had a 2014 R7 model made in 2016 and the neck was insanely huge, and so was my last 2014 R8.

Neck on this R8 is .90 at 1th and .995 at 12th. My R9 is .94 and 1.04 and neither has any shoulders. That’s a really big difference. Anyone else see R8s smaller than R9s?

Congrats. Horrible pictures but I think it also has a better top than the R9.
Horrible, yes, from a photography standpoint. But they are fairly realistic to see what it would look like under stage lights. Good thing I get to see it in every light.

Looks great. So does your R9. I don't buy into the whole year/neck thickness stuff. It's true that someway thru 60 onwards was overall pretty skinny and maybe the earlier 50s were bats, but 58/59/early 60 can be either. They were hand finished necks according to the feel of the guy finishing them. If the CCs are scanned right then my
59 colletti is skinniest
58 gregburst is fuller but still smaller than my
60 shanks which is slightly bigger
Uh??
*scratches head*

As you said, the shoulders make all the difference. My R7 is .90 - 1.01, but with virtually no shoulders it's insanely comfortable, and I don't have large hands. My 2013 Gary Moore Standard LP with a "50's" neck felt much bigger.

That is a beautiful guitar and I can feel your pain on getting good pics. I think all cameras malfunction around me immediately.

Pfft. That's not a small necked R8. My 2014 R8 is .87-.95 ... :) Yours is probably about average for 2014 based on what I've seen. Nice looking guitar.

In 2016, I had a 2014 model R8 that was 1” thick from the nut to the heel. Shoulders like a Madonna jacket too. ‘F-Board was pinker than a riverdancers nipples. Pretty guitar, all greenish lemon, but I sold it because it was just a little too big.

That’s why I love this one, no shoulders, not too thick, lightweight, and pretty color with fancy bloomers that peek out When you look under her skirt.

Congrats on the new R8!
I know that guitar well.
It was actually part of a run at Dave’s Guitar where he selected the tops among R9 tops and had the necks spec’d as R9 necks but wanted the guitars designated as R8’s.

Interesting. Yup it one of those Dave’s guitars. I have the original buyers receipt. He still had lots of those in 2016. I called and talked to a “dude” and got his name. I told him I was making a 3 hour drive to pick up one of 2 guitars on the website. I asked the dude to verify by SN the guitars were in stock, they were. I told him I would be there a half hour before close. I got there at that time and asked him where those guitars were so I could buy one. He said sorry, we close in a half hour and walked away. I didn’t find the guitars I drove 3 hours to see, and he couldn’t be bothered to sell it anyway. The next day I spent that money on a R7 at Guitar Center. I have no idea if that “dude” still works there, but I’m glad I got one of those guitars.

I finally got a shot of the flecks.
