Hi
Took a 3 hour drive yesterday to go audition an unplayed 2010 R0 Plaintop VOS. It ended up coming home with me. :) Polished it up and set it up last night and could not be happier. Sounds great plugged or unplugged and the action and neck is fantastic. I set it up at .008 neck relief and at the 12th fret I am at 4/64 - and 3/64 with no buzzing or fretting out. Very fast neck and not as small as my Classic neck but feels closer to my 1999 ES335 60s neck and that is a good thing for me. It had its COA, all hang tags, case candy and original receipt from when it was bought new. The original owner is a drummer that bought it with the intent of learning guitar but never did so it just stayed in its case. So happy to be back in the Historic family. Question- Does it matter the angle of the strings from the bridge to the stop piece? I typically like my tail piece screwed all the way down which I did and the strings clear the bridge fine but it looks like a pretty steep angle. Thanks

Nice, looks brand new!

The angle of the strings from the saddles to the tail piece should be as steep as possible without the strings touching the back of the bridge. :thumb:

Nice R0! HNGD!

I always put the tailpiece all the way down on my TOM LPs, even if the strings slightly touch the bridge.

Very nice . Screwed all the way down is what most people prefer. It supposedly helps sustain.. As long as the strings don't hit the back end of the bridge. But I have seen pictures of Page's tailpiece set fairly high so go figure ...

Welcome back and congrats on your new Historic R0. Les Paul and many players actually lock the stop-tail all the way down and thread the strings toward the end pin and wrap over top of the tail piece. This allows you to get maximum transfer of tonal vibrations to the body, and you can "palm-mute" when you are playing.

Congrats. The alternative is to top wrap the strings. :dude::dude:

Not saying you are wrong but I am just curious if this is a personal preference or is there an added benefit in having the steep angle? I have been playing around with mine with top wrap vs not top wrapped and things in between.

Thanks everyone. Well after owning and playing it a few days I find it hard to put down. Love this guitar and it sounds so good. Love the Burstbusters whether playing clean or with some gain. The sustain is fantastic and the neck is just perfect for me. My previous R7 was nice too and even though I did not mind the bigger neck the neck on this R0 just fits me better. I imagine this guitar will stay with me for years. Think I finally found the perfect LP for me.
