Technically it came in Thursday of this week but anyhow.. after selling a couple of LPs recently I had in mind to give a R9 a shot again. Couldn’t really find one that caught my interest. I stumbled across this and thought that.. I’ve always wanted one of these and the time was never right. As luck would have it I striked while the iron was hot as they say..

It came with a non original Gibson case that looks fairly new.. I’m on the hunt for one that’s more period correct. The frets are in great shape and have had a recent polish.. it has a trio of ‘57 classics. Middle pickup is out of phase which is how they were back in the early 60s I believe. I’m considering doing a pickup swap on the bridge pickup at the very least.. something with a little more oomph. To keep the look I’ll probably just get an uncovered pickup and swap the original cover over to that one.. also thought about rewiring with 3 volumes and 1 tone. That way you could have a blend of a 3 pickups in any manner desired.. I did notice the pickups have the date of 08/01/07.. the serial says it’s a 2006 model but... are they dated DD/MM/YY or MM/DD/YY? Would seem odd for them to be all from August of 07 being a 2006 model? January of 07 is a little more reasonable I guess.. could of been a super late 06 model..

Anyhow on to a few money shots

Congrats!!! That is a gorgeous and classic guitar.

I have a very similar guitar in red. I think the pickup wiring for these is super fun to play with. I had mine set up with master tone and then 3 volumes but wired for independent volume (so rolled off bridge or neck doesn’t kill the signal in the middle position)

my latest wiring that I think has been the most useful is 3 volumes and just bridge connected to the tone. Plus I put a dirty fingers in the middle and wired it always split so just one coil is active. So many awesome tones.

Wow, that's nice. I've always thought those were the most killer-looking of all the SGs, ever since I saw the one on the cover of Tony Bacon's book.

Congrats!

I totally forgot about the dirty fingers pickup... I wanna put something in the bridge with a little more oomph. I’ll have to reuse the cover to keep the original look. I really think the 3 vol/1 tone setup will be best.. you’ll be able to utilize all 3 in any manner ya see fit..

I think the 3 volume, 1 tone is a great set up. For my set up, I liked to be able to roll of the bridge a bit since SG's can get a bit bright but the neck and middle pickup would get muddy then. Again, that was my needs. The best part about these guitars is I think they are the most flexible in terms of tones and layouts. The sky is the limit really.

Dirty Fingers are pretty cool pickups. I grabbed a set for stupid cheap one time without a use and found a couple ways to use them. One downside is the 2 rows of adjustable pole pieces means you need a special cover or you can do like I did and I lowered the one side flush and only have one row visible.

The LP next to my SG in the photo has the other Dirty Fingers in the bridge and I put a special cover on that one as you can see.

Enjoy that guitar. I love those white ones.

I believe for these, the serial number format is YYXXXM, where YY is the 2-digit year, XXX is the number of production for that year, and M is the model, with SG Custom being a 1. It's possible that there could be four Xs if you have a 7-digit serial number.

EDIT: after re-reading, I'm now realizing that you were asking about the format for the pickup dates. :) I think it makes sense that is could be DD/MM/YY, especially if your serial is indicating 2006 and is 7 digits.
