Hello all,
I recently picked this guitar up as a husk. Original wood, frets, and binding. Thats about it. It started life as a TV yellow guitar, as evidenced by the TV color in the pickup cavities. It has been refinished red and had a heel repair as well. I have no clue when the refinish was done or who did it, but it looks good to me. I added all the parts to it, most of which I had lying around in my parts box--1965 CTS pots, Mojoaxe tailpiece/studs, aged Grovers. The pickups were made for me by a local pickup guy here in town and they sound awesome in it. The pickguard and backplate are not original either and were cut for me by my luthier who also did a fret level and the heel repair. It is a perfect companion for my other Les Paul. Enough of my banter, enjoy the pics!

Sweet pair! Hard not to love an honest player grade Special.

Do you find it neck heavy at all with the Grovers?

That Special looks great! The refinish looks dead on to a vintage cherry. And whats the story with that LP? Conversion I assume?

That other LP is actually a 1971 Goldtop deluxe that was stripped and finished natural. I bought it because of that top and sent it to my luthier for a burst refinish, correct celluloid inlays, and new frets; among a few other things. I added real PAFs with throbak rings and covers. About as close to a real burst as I will get but I’m happy with it!

Friggin killer guitars and a players grade special is a bargain , I recently sent one to BCR for some work and now she is back home ....phenomenal, of course my good friend also did a few "tricks" that make it even more special and versatile as a player...
