They made changes that a lot of Les Paul fans do not like or agree with. The mini-etune/G-Force is a joke so instead of it being an option it's come standard. Then there is also the huge hike in price.
2014 Gibson increased price (expected), removed some items that would have reduced build time, added frozen frets, 120th 12th inlay, and then added another 29% price increase.. 2015 rolls around, price increase, and numerous changes that "suppose" to make it better, but in my opinion pissed a lot of people off.
What a LPJ goes for now is more than what I paid for my 2012 Studio. If I wanted a 2014/2015 Studio that compared to my Studio. I would have to go for the Studio Pro. Which is around 1200.00.. Gibson can lick my taint.
imo 1)its because the auto tuning system is not optional and doesnt function as advertized for every one 2) while the string spacing has remained unchanged the actual fret board is wider giving the guitar a different feel almost like a ERG( 7string), this feel is not to the liking of many Les Paul/Gibson fans. 3) many guitars in the 2015 line up are pricey.
Gibson tried to improve and modernise the LP, and so came the 2015 model, when many here would like the exact copy of the 1959 model. That is probably why there are many complains.
There are good and bad guitars every year. When I bought my Lester new (because I wanted new), I didn't care what year I was living in but how good she sounded.
I didn't try a 2015 yet...but I agree, the headstock logo suck.
Rather then being proactive and coming up with a completely new designed guitar.. Something i think would sell tons.. Gibson decided to mess with a proven commoditity. So the 2015 LP was born... and will prolly have a short life.
The neck and pricing are the deal breakers for me. I have CTS/RSS in both hands..A big fat neck helps alot, but a wide neck makes things extremely painful for me. In additon the price increase is ludicrous.
If the price was lowered, the neck is a deal breaker. If the neck was narrower, the price is a deal breaker. I picked up a 2014 Trad with a big fat near R8ish neck when the 15s specs hit.
Other than the controversial features that one may or may not like (most people seem to not like them but that's not the point imo), they currently go for 2-3 times as much as used LP's, at least in Italy. That alone is enough to make them not worth the investment.
The 2015 line was changed so dramatically because Gibson cares about the knock off builders and wants to embrace the free market. The chibsons are probably more accurate LP's now.
My only complain is that the g-force tuners itself cost around $200! it's an unwanted upgrade that most of us'd prefer they remove it and deduct from the price.
