I have a PS4 Pro. There are a lot of great looking games coming out in the future, and like most, I don't want to pay $80+ each, so I was just curious how you all buy?

The last game I bought at full price, pre-ordered, was the newest God of War. $80, fun game, it was good, but overall it wasn't as good I was expecting and was disappointed by it.

I don't think I'll pre-order or buy at full price again. What I might do is just wait until the games I want are on sale or reduced to $40 but for the Game of the Year edition, so half price for each game but with all the added content. Might take over a year after release to get there but $40 max, GOTY editions only.

Bloodborne 2, Nioh 2, Red Dead, next GTA, Sekiro, another ninja game (can't remember the name), Spiderman, that's $560 (if my math is right) just for these not including other must-haves not out yet.

Sales tax in Ontario is 13%. I've found that digital downloads through the PS store are tax free. I only buy games through the PS store for this reason. Granted, you don't get to ever trade games in but I keep them, plus by the time I do trade them in, all I get is $0 - $3 from the store, plus I like not having to switch discs all the time.

One idea that came to mind, which I haven't done yet, is just watch a game fully played through on YouTube. Enough guys put up excellent walkthroughs, not to mention they play the game much better than I ever could. :laugh2:
Just grab a cigar, sit back, and watch someone else go through a few levels.

Sorry for the long rant. Back on track. What do you do when it comes to the new games you want?

The only game I play full price when it’s new is Forza Horizon.

The rest I wait til it’s free on Xbox Live. :)

I typically wait till they hit the <$40 mark.

Every now and then there are amazing deals on the PS Store for bundles with game+DLC for great prices. I got Witcher 3 with the DLC for $27 on sale from $67.

I have PS Plus and there is sometimes some good free content there too.

I just wait em out and buy used.

I don't trade games in anymore, just not worth it to me.
I'd rather keep the game than get 3 bucks.

Half the time I wait too long and forget what games I even wanted.

Yeah im a fan of just delaying the purchase. I look at it like this.... old games are new to me, and i can buy old xbox 360 games for sometimes less than a dollar! As far as the nintendo switch goes I just buy used titles that have been out a while.

I buy used. I also trade in my games once I beat them for store credit towards a different game.

Seconded. Some great deals on used games too. For clarity, it’s when the larger titles hit the used market at <$40 I tend to jump in. I have no issue buying used at all.

Although, putting the game in for the first time and having to wait 20-30 minutes for patches to download can be annoying lol

I tend to buy the big AAA titles new if I'm really looking forward to playing the game. Usually two or three a year at most. I like to buy digital download indie titles as well. Some really cool games for $10 - $20 on average.

As a side note, I'm still trying to find the elusive PS4 Pro before Spider-Man releases Friday. I stopped at a GameStop while out and about and they had one used white one that was crusty and looked like the previous owner didn't care for it. A lot of stains, nicks, and unidentified crap caked on it. GameStop obviously didn't even care enough to attempt to clean it up before they tried selling it. They wanted $380 for it. Pass.

20-30 minutes? So not Mass Effect then! :laugh2: Don’t recall which one it was, but I’m sure one i picked up recently had about 35GB of patches.

One reason I like the switch is there is no install time, no downloads (well there are, but you dont HAVE to download them to play the game)

insert the game, play. i like that.

I have literally about 40-60 free games that I got with my Xbox live account (4 per month or something - I don’t always get them)

And some really good ones in there too...top tier games, just older.

Some are crap though. :)

I usually wait to buy games until the price drops. Just picked this one up for $30.

I tried man, I trriiiiiieeeedd. Lately I've been playing Dead by Daylight when I feel like gaming.

Couldn't get into Fortnight. I'm shooting at someone and they magically build a brick wall? Build a staircase and run away? What the shit? :laugh2:

H1Z1 has been a fun Battle Royale game. And I'm been curious about PlayerUnknownBattlegrounds.

Lately though it's just Dead by Daylight and Dying Light. ..I haven't played in like a week though.

I used to have the same video game dilemma. Now I have a 9 month old baby who never naps so I get maybe 1 hour a month of video game time and my wife gives me the stink eye the whole time
