You hit the nail on the head. His role is being a session musician on stage with a high profile band. Not a bad thing to add to your 'legacy'.

Tommy had the Gibson version made for him personally back in the summer of 2014. There is a Rig Rundown on Youtube (Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dg2fRBXhB6Q) where he says he just got it from Gibson a day or so prior to making that video. The video was published in August of 2014.

I assume since he liked the look of it so much that he and Gibson decided to make an Epi version of it. Not sure why they didn't make a Gibson version.

Oh and BTW, signature models are NOT designed to pay homage or tribute to anyone no matter what anyone else may say. Signature models are designed and made to sell guitars...plain and simple. Worthiness or unworthiness does not matter. If they actually thought that making a Pee-Wee Herman signature LP would sell, they would make it...worthiness be damned. It's all about marketing and selling guitars.

"I wanna grow up and play guitar just like Tommy Thayer", said no one ever.

You might be surprised as there are a lot of kids in the KISS audience these days. Will he be as influential as Ace? Unlikely, but there are kids who look at Atommy up there and think, "damn is that cool".

Right on....chris b!

shoals ranger...you answered your own question... "Why doesn't Gibson make a tt signature? "

....Because no one would buy it.

Apparently the ace frehley signature models are big sellers.....so it must not just be all about the makeup....???

Ace Frehley= Iconic

Tommy Thayer= not so much.

Definition of legacy: Something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past.

Since Tommy is impersonating Ace, I guess his legacy is Ace? :laugh2:

Thanks for that helpful contribution to the discussion. Have you PLAYED one?

EVERYONE who has ends up liking if not loving it. It plays better than my Gibson LP 50's tribute for sure.

Ultimately, I would challenge anyone to find a better LP style guitar for the same or less money.

Pretending to be ace sucks.....but it would be fun.
Kiss's output with Thayer is middling at best but it still carries more weight than black n blue.

I'm not listening to either of them

Fairly certain that since Gibson/Epi did signature models for the likes of Thayer and Chad Kroeger that many of you like myself should be getting emails to set up a meeting to go over what features and appointments our signature models will be released with. As for me I'm going with Epiphone because I want the regular working man to be able to play what I play 😏

I'm a KISS fan and I'm an Ace fan. But Ace was impersonating Spaceman in KISS, Tommy is now impersonating Spaceman in KISS. The succes of that band is based on and continues because of the show element with four iconic superhuman cartoon characters belting out great but simple rock songs with lots of fireworks, smoke bombs and lasers.

If push comes to shove the major part of both Ace and Tommy's legacies will be that they've played the same role and the same instrument in the same band for a certain amount of time. Different players? Yes, off course. But they will be able to tell their grandkids basically the same stories. Ace will have far more ánd more interesting stories, but they wouldn't all be suitable to tell to kids anyway...:laugh2:

Huh?

So Paul is "impersonating" Star Child? Gene is "impersonating" The Demon?

You're right Wilfred.... Of course! anything that made kiss worth even a cursory listen had nothing to do with songs! or the individuals playing on those songs!!

The magic was in their talismans!! and in the costumes....and the make up.

Maybe you should stop drinking the kiss kool aid?

 Sorry if that comes as a shock to you.

Lol! They're impersonating themselves then is what you're saying, Since they've each created their own characters?

And you didn't answer my questions....please do so.
