Hello to all I just installed two medium output pickups on a 89 Epi Les Paul Custom . This is a guitar made for one year with the Gibson mustache headstock. Long tenon and Japanese hardware. It had two unknown pickups and stock pots, caps and wiring. I have a few Gibsons and other makes with all sorts of pickups and I immediately knew the pups had to be replaced. I had purchased these from another member and new CTS 10% pots and Mojo caps.
After rewiring the entire guitar I installied the new pickups ( chrome covers were removed) They are well made and show detail to quality
I was totally surprised the sweet sound the new pups had. They are very articulate if they can be described that way. Every note was clear and was like a bell ringing . I know between a new nut installed and new strings any guitar will sound better, but the harmonics and tone was there. I compared it to my T-tops, Shaws , vintage Dimarzios and Duncans on other Les Pauls I have. All have their own tone but these pickups were right up there with the big boys.
One thing I did notice was that I had to play more carefully and as every note was truly amplified Not sure if this was because they are unpotted.
If I played sloppy it sounded the same Once I started to warm up to the guitar and adjust the pots I realized it was a great pair of pups.
Good work and looking forward now to another pair in future
