Cool. I just wish Roger Waters was going to be on it. I'm sure David Gilmour will do a fine job without him, but I can't help wishing he was on it too.

Thanks for the info but it's ain't Pink Floyd to ME. It's a David Gilmour album which should be excellent. :)

I wish the band was back together as they were after Sid cracked up and left. As it is, I'm glad it's Gilmour that did the album. Without his guitar and voice, the album would not be Floyd. I like Waters, but if he ain't gonna play, then I'd rather have Gilmour carry the Floyd flame.

If that's the cover, it looks kinda sleepy. Floyd needed Roger and David. Without the push / pull of both of them, it just isn't Floyd. If Polly wrote the lyrics again, I'll pass.

Looking forward to it, as for if its pink Floyd: yes, to me it is, a band is about portraying a certain type of music/feeling, which is bigger than the people in it.

Else we might as well discuss blue oyster cult ;-)

As I understand it, there's only one track on the album that has vocals involved in it. The rest is being described as ambient instrumentals on some of the websites I've seen.
I'm thinking something along the lines of Shine On You Crazy Diamond parts I-IX

Thats what I heard too. I am excited for that though, Gilmour is a great songwriter and this should not disappoint.

But please rename the album to anything besides Pink Floyd

Gilmore and Mason?
Nick Mason spends his days racing classic Ferraris.
Still, it's the Gilmore sound and solos that always attracted me, so I'll bite. I'll miss Richard Wright.
My favorite is "PULSE" and the DVD is incredible.
I wonder if Sam Brown can return to do B/U vocals?

Meh,
Putting the album out under the Pink Floyd moniker doesn't bother me in the slightest.
It's not like it's anything new, people pass and/or leave bands all the time without the band name changing.
Do you think Cliff Burton or Jason Newstead are choked that James and the boys still call themselves Metallica?

The album is described as a “tribute” to Rick Wright, Pink Floyd’s keyboardist who died in 2008, and features his contributions from 1993 sessions for The Division Bell album, which have been enhanced by David Gilmour and Nick Mason.

The Endless River is largely instrumental, with one song, Louder Than Words, featuring new lyrics by Polly Samson, Gilmour’s novelist wife.

Gilmour said: “The Endless River has as its starting point the music that came from the 1993 Division Bell sessions. We listened to over 20 hours of the three of us playing together and selected the music we wanted to work on for the new album.

“Over the last year we've added new parts, rerecorded others and generally harnessed studio technology to make a 21st century Pink Floyd album. With Rick gone, and with him the chance of ever doing it again, it feels right that these revisited and reworked tracks should be made available as part of our repertoire.”

If James left, would they still be Metallica? Imagine Motorhead without Lemmy. I think there is a limit to how far you can still 'claim' to be 'the band' with the absence of significant members. Right now, 'Thin Lizzy' is touring, obviously without Phil Lynott. Phil's shadow was just too big to go on without him, it seems the equivalent of Scotty Moore touring as 'Elvis Presley'. Pink Floyd has a little more wiggle room, because of Gilmour's significant vocal contribution; however, in my mind, the mood was all Waters, and with PF, mood was a major part of the music.

I'm interested, especially if it does represent a spacey instrumental experience. Gilmore's playing never disappoints, and maybe a Seattle tour stop? I for one am glad it is Waters free. I love how people 'won't all it Pink Floyd'. :)

According to the article, the only song on the album with singing on it will have lyrics written by Polly. Haha, I don't mind her words too much. They're earnest, nothing sharp witted like Waters, but pleasant. The music matters more to me. I loved David's solo album "On An Island". Just mellow and trippy, the way I like it.

My favorite part of Pink Floyd was the interplay between David and Rick. Sure, I miss Roger, but he's too cerebral. I'm hoping this new album will have a timeless feel/sound to it, similar to "On An Island". Their 80/90's material hasn't aged very well. It sounds like they're using a lot of Rick's parts from 90's sessions.

I'm very anxious to hear this new album.
