This was in my email so I thought someone that isn’t on Gibson email list may be interested.

On a side note, I decided to "try" a used set of Tone Specific Bloombuckers, when they came up for sale a few weeks ago.
OX4 pickups have been my "go to" pickups for my PAF type needs, for a couple of years now. I would not say that the Bloombuckers are insanely better, but certainly a different PAF type of "flavor". I am glad that I bought them, in order to change things up a little, but they are much more expensive than what I paid, when they are brand new.

So a medium to high output bridge pickup is now being described as a take on a PAF.....well I've literally heard everything now.
The operative word is "take." Think of pickup manufacturers who make pickups which are similar to PAFs but have a little more power to them, or maybe an emphasis in the treble range. That doesn't bother me, so long as the difference is made clear, and almost all pickup product descriptions I have seen are pretty clear -- especially small boutique pup makers.

I do see your point, though. One other thing which occurred to me is the fact that real Gibson PAFs from the late '50s do have a fair amount of variability.

never liked the 490/498's that came in my avatar. Went through several sets and landed on Duncan Seth Lover's and there they will stay. The 57 Classic set that came in my Johnny A Epiphone are really sweet sounding too. So my least and most favorite Gibson hb's are now available in sets? yawm

I liked the 57/57+ set that came with my 2009, but tried a 498T bridge, after liking the slightly hotter bridge 61T in my SG...

Now both guitars have the 498T in the bridge. I like the "wildness" of this pick-up!

LoL that's why there's chocolate and vanilla ice cream, Fords and Chevys. Obviously there's a big fan base for the 490/498 set as they've been using it for years as their 'go to' pup set. I kept them along with any other part(s) that I've replaced due to wear. Doubtful I'll ever use them for anything. Glad they work for you :dude:

Meeeee too! I have the 57 Classic set in my R0 and I swear that I have never heard a better PAF type sound, except from the real thing. Playing them through a JCM-900. I LOVE that tone.

Recently put the 57s that my 2001 R7 came with back in thinking I might sell the guitar and it blew my mind. 20 years of chasing tones and this thing had it the whole time, or at least a variant of it. Mind you for some reason any pickup I put in that R7 sounds amazing but those 57s are killer.
