A, B, select???.... there's no A/B X, O, [] or any of the bullsit in a REAL arcade game.

There is right, left, fire.

I'll also accept right,left,up,down fire and hyperspace/jump.

Any game that requires more than a 4-way joystick and two buttons is too fancified for me.

I just can't remember all that crap in these new games.

I'm a sucker for nostalgia myself. I had one of those "arcade classics" games for all of the newer systems I owned throughout the years. Now I have one of these.

I remember playing some of these way back before the commidore 64. Arcades in the malls. Pumping in quarters all day long. Those where the days. Galaga, defender, centipedes, and more.
I just saw today somebody is going to sell arcade consoles for $100.

I've really tried to get into those arcade classics.

Can't do it. Pac-Man, Frogger, Donkey Kong, Galaga, they all suck balls.

Arcades didn't get good until the late 80s. Give me Sunset Riders, Metal Slug, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, The Punisher, etc. anyday. Now that's good gaming. The Neo Geo was a goddamned goldmine. Defender can lick my balls.

you had to be there. Be 8 years old in a Shakeys pizza shop, playing Ms.Pac-Man,..eating greasy pizza and pouring watery soda out of a frosted plastic pitcher into a red frosted plastic cup.

Orange, Red, Yellow plastic booth seats and brown tables, walls, and floors,...hell even some of the arcade machines had brown wooden siding. :laugh2:

You had to be there.

Like when Tron came out. People laugh about Tron now,...but if you were a kid when that came out it was amazing,..there was nothing like that before to compare it to.

It was like the Matrix,..you can't appreciate how incredible that movie was if you weren't around going to the movies before it came out. Nowadays all movies sort of look like The Matrix in a way, so it's passe. But when that movie first came out it was jaw dropping, there just wasn't anything like it before.

..you can say the same about some music genres. Black Sabbath isn't heavy compared to Fear Factory or Cannibal Corpse. But before Black Sabbath there really wasn't anything that heavy. So at one point in time Black Sabbath was the heaviest fcking thing in the world!! :dude:

You have to understand the past to appreciate the present or it's too easy to take it all for granted.

Look at that Stranger Things show,...that's sort of what it was like. Those kids would love to play Pac-Man, Frogger, Donkey Kong, Galaga,..because at that moment in time it's the most cutting edge video game they'd ever seen.

I remember seeing Golden Axe II and Altered Beast and just thinking they were amazing and how could a game possibly ever look better than that? :laugh2:

Makes sense. That heyday was almost ten years before I was born. I came up in the 90s - same atmosphere, different games. The local family fun center had a Neo Geo MVS loaded with Metal Slug, as well the big huge 4 player Simpsons cabinet. Greasy pizza and watery soda abound.

Just can't get on with the super primitive stuff. I'd like to say it's because I'm too sophisticated, but really I just suck at them. I've never gotten past the first level of Donkey Kong and I'm hopeless at Pac-Man. Not really much for me to enjoy, and the concept of just repeating the exact same thing over and over to rack up a hi score just isn't in my DNA. I'm a shmup, beat-em-up, run n' gun and fighter fan, they play like bigger and badass versions of old console games.

I remember for Xmas my friend got the gold cartridge Zelda game for Nintendo. It was a brand new game and he's telling me, "yeah there's a battery inside the cartridge and you can save your game. Then the next day you can start playing again and pick up where you left off the day before."

Pretty sure I told him he was lying and full of sh*t because I just couldn't even imagine being able to turn on your Nintendo and pick up a saved game like that. :laugh2:

For Mega-Man you could save your game if you wrote down a really long, really stupid, arcane password,..maybe like 16 digits? (seemed like it anyway.) Then the next day you could punch in the password with the controller and your progress would be the same as when you left.

But actually saving your game and just being able to hit 'Continue' seemed like voodoo.

...I remember the same friend telling me about Knight Rider and having a similar reaction. "Yeah man you could throw a brick at the car window and it wont break. You could drop a cinderblock on the hood and it wont even scratch the paint!" .. I'm like, "shut the fck up!!?!" :laugh2:

they were more innocent times, for sure.

I've been gaming since Space Invaders came out, I don't have any desire to revisit olden day games, the new games are too good.

I understand some think these games are too old school. But they were what started it all. If you grew up in that time you didn't have all of what is around now. It was a more low tech time. With todays technology games are so realistic. We've come a long way. But don't forget the past.
