Was a Fender player for years but never bonded with strats. Never a fan of the bridge pick up. Being a Nirvana fan and having owned mustangs and jags etc I fancied a black strat with rosewood neck like Cobain's vandalism strat. Found a late 80's Japanese standard strat, right era for a Cobain strat, and bought it (righty though not lefty). Planning on black Seymour Duncan JB and bwb guard, sticker optional. However, after cleaning and setting it up, it sounds great. Gonna enjoy it as is for a bit and when the novelty wears off, then it's mod time. Here's a pic, thanks for looking.

Congratulations!

Some very excellent Stratocasters were made in Japan during that era. I'm assuming it's a "Made in Japan" model instead of "Crafted in Japan", although the CIJ models are excellent in their own right.

Is this an original or a Japanese copy?

It's a genuine late 80's Japanese Standard. Not a 60's or 50's reissue but the Japanese Standard of the day. Todays equivalent would be a Mexican Standard. It came with roller string trees but I replaced them with the usual type. So it's a 'genuine real fake copy authentic Japanese Strat'.

Nice! A JB (get the trembucker version) would make that puppy rock!
