I picked this up last weekend. It just arrived yesterday.

It’s a 1985 Gibson Les Paul XPL DC.

It came factory equipped with a Gibson/Kahler Flyer tremolo system. Luckily, those systems utilized the standard bridge and tailpiece posts. So it’s a piece of cake to convert it back to a stop tailpiece and Nashville bridge. You just have the cavity route in the body.

So I ditched the Kahler. Put a set of TonePros on it, set it up and it was ready to rock!!

The stock pickups were intact. Shaw Dirty-finger in the bridge and 2 Gibson singles.

Medium/slim bound neck with an ebony board. Mahogany body with a carved maple cap. Weighs about 7.75 lbs.

I took it to band practice tonight and it sounded really good!! Plays great too!!!

good for you man.... it is different.

I almost thought it was one of those new thing-a-ma-jiggers for a minute.

They have kind of grown on me looks wise.

You should name it hen’s teeth, it’s not something you see everyday.

Nice board, that’s definitely black Ebony none of your streaking on that one.

I started really thinking about that.

The Spirit XPL model (flat top) those are also pretty rare.

BUT

The Les Paul XPL (carved top) are much less frequently seen. I didn’t really realize this until I figured out that there was a difference between the Spirit XPL and the Les Paul XPL.

Very cool guitar,.... i had a friend that had a white one with gold and black pinstripe like the V's and Explorers of the day. Excellent find.... I actually like the Kahler... but not the Flyer so much.

Sweet! I had a XPL DC & Explorer ( w/ Floyd), ordered from Gibson when they were new. Sold the DC after heavy gigging. Sill have the pickups from the Explorer, Dirtyf Finger @17 in bridge. Neck pup is ceramic mag @12. Both had “custom shop” decals on headstock.
Keep that!
