That really is the most stunning looking guitar!

Many, many congratulations on this one -- I think your decision to press ahead and go for it with the tiger-eye, despite your understandable reservations, has been well-rewarded indeed!

It would have been fabulous enough with a dark rosewood or ebony board, but the board you used and the imagery it creates with the flight of birds is, I think, the crowning glory of this instrment.

There isn't a jaw-drop emoji in existence that could do justice to the response this piece deserves, so you'll have to just imagine that for yourself...

Just WoW, Chris!

I really like outdoor shots ... the way sky blue touches chrome and colors bevels and carves, the sun shadows. Delicious! :yesway::yesway: :)

(but that dark nub of shade covering your 12th fretbirds ... Gaaahh! ;))

You really outdid yourself on this one ... A&W waves, a most excellent burst, and the poetry of that fretboard ... just WoW!

Yeah I have a shot where the sun is full on the front, but there's less depth without the angled light and the fretboard is semi-washed out

I feel the same as you about the shadow on the 12th fret, but it's the better photo overall :)

A&W :)

There won't be anything particularly new here, but since there's no end to the LP build threads, another Magnum build shouldn't stretch the bounds of propriety ;-)

It'll have my usual features. Neck-through, carbon fiber, multi-laminate neck, carved bookmatched top.

Body and neck wood will be Bolivian mahogany from the same lot as the Phoenix build.

This will be slightly different from the Phoenix build in that it'll be a 25" scale length, 22 frets, and a TOM bridge. A quilted top rather than a flame top. Slight alteration to the body shape in that there's a bit more curve on the back end of the body and slightly more width in the horns.

Won't start the actual build for a couple weeks yet after I shoot finishes on the pair of Strats I just finished building, but I have my templates, materials, and most of the hardware on hand and ready to go, so just firing up the build thread now...

New, slightly different body shape. One departure from this design is I'll be using a 3-way toggle instead of the blade.

Top, which I glued up a few months ago. This is from the same billet I used for the top on one of the Strats I just finished.

On this build I'll also be doing a matching quilted headstock overlay.

Will be doing a tiger eye finish like this...

More to come....
WOW! That Tiger Eye looks totally awesome! That is some quintessential eye candy!

Finally sprung for the ubiquitous purple sharpie. Now I know why they are so common in the fret tutorials I've seen. I'd used black till now and the purple is just easier to see.

I had no idea the purple Sharpie was even a thing. I've always used a purple Sharpie just because that happened to be the one I had at hand. And of course, always the green masking tape. I just wish I could find the super narrow (1/4"?) masking tape.

To be clear, I've never heard anyone recommend a particular color before. That said, it always seemed I saw purple sharpies in fretwork tutorials, so I just just got some and lo and behold it actually is easier for me to see than black.

It must simply be one of those unspoken truths :)

A shiny look. Reflections

You'll note some very minor ripples and orange peel (and dust), which should sand down flat very easily.
I like this shot because it shows off the carve, which I'm very happy with. the room lighting causes it to look slightly more orange than plain white light does...

Also, I've decided this weekend to sand the back and sides flat, and shoot them with satin finish clear. Top will remain gloss, but back and sides will be a satin finish.
