Ok i just got an Epiphone Les Paul Custom Alpine White that i bought from Ebay.... and i already have a marshall to rock on and practice on. Right now my next step is to save up for future pickups and a BIG PURPLE MARSHALL STACK UP AMP.... but i may start using my guitar for various places and school so i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on good miniture battery/plug-in amps... i was thinking of a VOX AMplug AC-30 headphone amp.

Help?

thanks =D :thumb:

Absolutely hard to beat the Roland MicroCube bro. The Vox Amplugs are sweet too though.

MicroCubes are around $125 new, but you can find em' on Craigslist usually for around $50-$70. And they kick ass!

The amplugs are decent - I have one. The Classic Rock model.

You might also watch Craigslist for a cheap used combo amp.

Well I was about to recommend the MicroCube as well. Well if budget is tight then I guess the Amplugs will do..

I really have to second that micro cube.
hold off and save up if you have to.
also there's one a little bigger for a hundred bucks.. I've forgotten the model number.

But the micro cube is way perfect. It's a keeper.
This is an amp you wont sell when you want something bigger because everything it does, it does really well.

Sure, the efx aren't perfect. But the rever delay and tremolo are just peachy keen.
The preamps all are excellent.
I esp.like the Vox. But the jc120 is very nice.. the blackface is decidedly fendery.
and the marshall and mesa boogie will take you over the top.

put that all together with cd input, headphones out.. and you've got a practice amp you'll never want to sell off.

Plus, as a preamp, in front of a bigger amp.. or into a pa.. it's really good.

Quite a package.
I'm an old fart.. I started just before the Beatles hit.
We had CRAP back then.. and we didn't even know it.
One of these would have just blown us all completely away.
We never even dreamed it.

It's a great time for guitarists!

Plug it into the cable jack on your guitar, and the headphones plug in to it.

Well. I don't mean to be contrary.
But..
I had the amplug first. and sent it back.
It really doesn't compare. It's completely different.

I guess I'll just say it. It's toylike by comparison.
Yes, it didn't totally suck or anything. But it has no tone compared to the micro cube.

I also tried the tascam guitar trainer. and it was more money, and less
amp than the micro cube.
most of the features sucked, at best on the tascam, too.

Ibanez and a couple of other companys make those cigarette pack sized
headphone jammers. and they typically beat the amplug for useability.

the amplug had a good sound or two.. but.. really lags behind the micro cube for useability.

I've had behringer solid state practice amps.. sold one to my sons friend for 30.00.
I've had two marshall small amps.. liked the first well enough to move up in features and got one with efx.

but compared to the micro cube for tone.. and tone is what you want. they sucked.
and for features, they had no advantage at all.

I understand the vox series, much like the micro cube, is also very good.

So, I say again.
Save up if you have to. It's really worth it.
Go to a store and test them, I think you'll agree.

the amplug is small.. plugs right into your guitar. headphones out.
that's it.

the thing is, if you're output jack is on the bottom edge.. you can't sit down with it in there..you have to stand up, or you have to be careful you're not always knocking it around.

It's just a chip a battery and a circuit with headphones out jack.
you can run it into a bigger amp and use it like a pedal.. but it's not so hot for that in my estimation.

search ebay for a while.. they sell them all the time below street price..

I wouldn't be all this wonky about it, but there are so many things available
that are real values instead of just being decent and inexpensive.
I think the micro cube is a real value.

I think it all depends on what you want to use it for. I have the vox amplug and the Vox Da5(vox's equiv. to the micro cube). Before the DA5 I had the Micro Cube but returned it in favor of the DA5 because it has more effects than the micro cube, but other than the effects they were virtually the same amp. The Vox may be a little louder.

As far as the amplug I use it almost every day in the back seat when I commute to work with my wife(she drives in the am, I drive pm). I also use it kicking back in the living room when the wife is watching a show I'm not that interested in(can't play power chords though-gets a little loud for her even with the amplug:dude:) The Da5 is used for playing at friends, the beach, bbq's.

I also just used my amplug outputted to my ipod speakers and rocked out in the hotel room with friends on a road trip. It wasn't sonic perfection but it sure was portable and a lot of fun, not to mention I got hours of practice in the back seat.

I agree with assessing what you need it for. The amplug is great if you're trying to practice in quiet and want to carry it around in your pocket or your case. It's a great little tool to have especially when you're somewhere you can't take a Roland. I take mine to music stores to try out guitars in peace and quiet without all of the Fred Durst quality playing of sweet child o mine and smoke on the water blowin out of the biggest marshalls in the room.

If you want to be able to play outloud and with headphones get the Roland or something comparable.

As for sitting down with the amplug I can't sit down with my LP plugged in any easier to my Crate than with my amplug. Six in one if you ask me.
