Yea the board is different…. It’s dark near the top but has a sapwood look to it as you move up… it’s not a bad piece of wood… it’s dense and very smooth.

Very nice. You and I have two things in common and a third you wish we did.

In common.
1. I received a new sweet cherry Lester (R0) last month.
2. My switch tip was mutilated.

Things you wish you we had in common.
1. They had a switch tip and sent it to me.

Enjoy that axe. Personally, I've grown tired of standard burst colors with red and ebony now being my favorites. However, this will change in time so I need keep my "standard" colored axes...ha!

Know what else?

Stop the popcorn packing ….. it’s like a cruel joke…
I had a candy apple red R7 once … but the neck was weird to me….and I kept thinking of hot rods…

Pics of the new R0 are welcome!

My cherry top was from a special order of cherry 59's back in 2000 by Ronn David at Vintage World. I believe that only two red guitars were special ordered by Ronn.

The guitar was originally sold to a buyer in Australia. Several years later I was able to track it down. It’s a very special guitar that is near and dear to my heart...

Are those pickup rings Gibson? Or replaced with Wizz or other replica?
Stock. Funny you should ask. Due to this guitar I've gone down the plastic rabbit hole now in option-overload. I'm debating between a more bone color for the rings. Word on the street indicates Bartlett's offerings to be the bees-knees....but the $. Are you going to do some tinkering? It's interesting that both these guitars are 2019s yet have different colored guards. I think I like yours a bit better.

Well yes I have been goofing around with rings … not much else at all…. Wizz rings look great…. Bartlett do too but bone white is VERY white…. Wizz can have a Greenish hue, or cast and they look great on a guitar with yellow… since red and green are opposing colors …. Not sure how that might look… whereas bone white may be a bit too much white…

In your photo above, the rings are contrasting the yellowish pick guard and poker chip

That’s why I asked….

So …quick update…

I finally got to take it to band last night and compared with #1 (2014 R8) and the results were close…. #1 will likely remain #1

The first thing I noticed was the lower bout where your forearm goes…. It’s sharp…. ? Then I remembered that I shaved the binding rounder on the 2014 years ago…. Completely forgot… makes a huge difference in comfort…

2nd thing is …. This guitar is a lot of neck… way huge… feels amazing…. Did not compromise accuracy or ease and she agreed with every note…. Which is nice…however the neck is ever so slightly balanced differently because the body is so light….

The 2014 balances slightly better….

The greatest thing is it’s unwavering responsiveness to my amp….killer….there is no equal… kind of like a 335 howl…

I had to adjust my amp settings for additional bass response because this can go quackie quick and it slips into excessive compression fast…. I didn’t get too much into dialing it in yet…. Everyone else is noisy at practice….

But anyway it’s an amazing guitar….I think I’m keeping this one….

I forgot my IPad so no recording….. next week though…

The other 2019 R8 will likely hit the for sale ads soon…. I love that one but it’s on the heavier side for me…. It won’t be going to band at all now…
