Due to their outright refusal to build a proper flying V outside of a $7K+ VOS, I am seriously considering an Edwards myself sometime… all the more upsetting to me having a 100% MIA collections whereas the Edwards Vs are now MIC.
+1

Also wish we'd see an affordable Explorer. The 'original collection' Explorer (and V) with dots, no binding, slab body is 2 grand!

The local hardwood supplier near me actually gets in white and black Limba, and so building one from scratch is the way to do it. Last time I got some black Limba there it was like $9 or $10 per B/F.

I have an 04 SG Faded (which I love as a hanging around the house and noodling guitar) that I think I paid $400-500 for in 05 or 06. That guitar is MUCH closer in specs to this current guitar from Gibson, which is priced at $1499:
https://www.gibson.com/en-US/Electric-Guitar/USAFN1750/Faded-Pelham-Blue
Really the only difference between this one and mine is the color and mine has humbuckers. The guitar above, which is listed at $2199 is a much higher end SG Standard with Maestro Vibrola. Not saying it's not a hard price to swallow, just trying to compare apples to apples. The Les Paul Standard Faded models available right now are $2499. so the Les Paul to SG price difference seems to track across both models.

Also, this one doesn't have a bridge.

Yep. I missed the compensated wraparound bridge on this one. My 04 does have a TOM and stop bar.

Don’t forget the difference between faded studio (ish) model and faded standard models.

The Faded Mahogany Les Paul’s were $799 I think back in the mid 2000’s and you could find them on sale for $600 or so. The faded SG models varied based on inlays. Some were unbound boards, some were bound birds with dots. There were the inbound boards with moon inlays, no inlays. Those all varied in price but I don’t recall anything being new retail for under $500.

The Faded Standard LP had some of the nicest top ever and happed dying all of the chambering controversy. Great guitars that went up in value.

My guess is they are looking at these new faded standards as a poor man’s VOS. It will be I testing to see how nice they end up being. I bet they don’t have the secret AAA tops of the last faded standard run. As for the SG faded, it looks like a standard with some satin VOS treatment and not all of the vintage spec stuff. Seems a bit overpriced but I haven’t checked into what they are deeply.

If you mean by "the nicest top ever" the figuring in the maple... that`s true but the clearcoat finish was just horrible, like soda spilled over it. Basically desperate in need of a refin.
And then the horrendous D-neckprofile... truly a poor man`s Gibson LP std.

Spotted an '04 on CL a couple weeks ago with a little Vox practice amp for $500. I called witin an hour of the posting but was too late.

Been eyeing another '02 on CL for $575 but someone upgraded the finish....

I'm not afraid of a project but...eh. Maybe just paint it black?

The SG Faded from way back when that you guys are referring to are now $1299:

These new 61 Fadeds are full Standard models, just without the gloss.

I love the faded series.
Been absent here for quite a while. Guess I still have it! JK

Nothing wrong with faded series in general. I own a 2010 Flying V (EUR 649,- new in 2012).

I’m going with “bullshit” on that. They were $600 as late as 2017. Other than dragging inflation/supply chain anomalies into the equation, that shit doesn’t come close to passing the smell test.
I'm calling BS on that $600 price.

I ain’t never seen a Gibson SG for $479. If you did, I bet you didn’t get an SG in the early 60’s style with a vibrato setup.

My Musician's Friend purchase history only goes back as fa as '08, but here's a link to a thread on the Special Faded SG from '08 in which I participated:

https://www.mylespaul.com/threads/sg-faded-special-survey.9516/page-2

And here's a quote from that thread from another member:

I got one when they first came out. It was pretty nice with a one-piece body, and I really dug the brown finish. But I didn't care for the ebony fretboard with the crescent moon and no inlays, and the fret ends were a bit sharp. But I only paid $475 for it new, so I still considered it a good deal. I added covered Duncans to it.

I remember those SG’s. They are a far cry from what the new SG with the early 60’s style and tremolo. Those SG’s were as cheap as they came. When they didn’t sell out. They marked them low. So yeah I stick by what I said. Two completely different guitars in different terms.

They were awesome, they instantly sold out and that's why the price went through the roof.

I seen one at a local store. If I remember it had an ebony board with the moon dots. They used a nitro finish. But it was as dead as could be. I know of guys polished up some of them. But with out proper poor filler they seem rough. I’m not saying they are bad guitars. But they are a far cry from new satin finishes. I polished a faded standard LP. It looked like glass. But it had been filled and had a much thicker finish.

This is true, I was active on the Harmony Central forums a lot back then and there was a member named Catfish something or other that was giving discounts because he was a rep for one of the big online box stores I don't recall which but I wanna say maybe AMS? This was like 20 years ago though so $475 back then would be around $800 now.

EDIT: I just found a pic I took of it with covers added, the creation date of the pic is 2002 so yea, it was over 20 years ago.
