Very nice. Yeah, I work for a cellphone provider who ships with UPS, and any orders taken after 4:00PM on Friday don't ship until Monday, in which it'll probably be recieved Wed/Thurs.

I didn't have a great experience with MF....about 2 days before my guitar was supposed to arrive....oh, gee...backordered...for months!

Anyways...you shouldn't have the same problems...but it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get an appointment ready for a full setup, crown, polish, and nut replacement...

Wow! Im hoping I dont have the same problem, if I do, well, shit happens.

I plan on getting a setup, perhaps a new nut... I may ride out the one I have for now and take a crack at making my own down the line. What the hell is crowning a guitar? (please dont link any birthing pictures... :laugh2:)

A crown and polish job is a nice thing to get along with a setup...especially on a cheaper guitar. What they'll do is get rid of any rough edges on the frets and any uneven or loose frets will be addressed.

Get one of those and a new nut and your guitar will play like a million bucks. :thumb: Plus, if you get the full setup, they'll verify your truss rod while they're at it.

TBH I do some of this stuff on my guitars...but for most hobbyists, (including myself)....the best policy is to stick with the electronics side of it and as far as playability, action and setup...leave it to the pros if you can. (AND THE ONLY REASON I do a lot of my own stuff is because I'm left handed...but, as stated...you shouldn't have the same issues I do with this sort of thing at all...)

The only problem I have with getting ALL of that done professionally is I dont really have the extra money for that :D.

Intonation and Bridge action I know I can do myself, The nut issue I wish I could do myself, but like I said, Ill probably buy a bunch of blanks at some point and give it a try. At the very least I can re-glue the original back on.

Fret shaping is one thing I dont think I could do myself. Though fixing loose frets I dont think I'd have an issue with.

Well....if anything....most setups done by a reputable shop will address this. I think if there's any issues...you're talking around 35 dollars USD. A full crown and polish is a bit more....it's really worth it, though....

Good luck with that. If you have a backup guitar, you'll be good. :slash:

Does that mean I may have myself talked up too much and it's quite a bit harder than I imagine to do my own setup?

A basic setup is a piece of cake. ;)

The trick for me was to find a ruler that did 32nd inch increments, and use that to get a general gauge for string height. I found a tape measure at Lowe's for around 3 bucks. The truss rod should be straight....

Seriously though...it's probably gonna be hit or miss. It's either gonna play like a million bucks right out of the box or you're going to have some issues.

I don't trust myself to do my own set-ups, so I have my local Mom&Pop do it for me for a small fee. It prevents having a much larger fee in the future to fix my mistakes :p

That being said, in my defense I've never had someone show me how to set it up. I'm sure it's not too hard after it's done a few times.

It's not too bad. I certainly screwed up a few times when I was teaching myself. (Yet another great reason to get into the Epiphones. ;) )

Did you do your own nut as well? or did you leave the stock plastic nut on? Im debating getting a tusq nut off TUSQ Nut - 1/4" - Slotted Epiphone - TUSQ Les Paul Nuts by GuitarPartsDepot.com and I can imagine all I'd have to do is file the slots down if any and glue it in.

If I could get one pre-cut...I'd do it...since I'm a leftie though...I'd have to order a blank, and then hope I'd get it right after getting the tools.

Right now? No, I don't make my own guitar nuts.

Ah, right, lefty. Man you guys have it rough.

The nut is the only thing I am weary of doing myself. Im doing plenty of reading and I think Ill order up a pre-cut nut tonight for the hell of it.

A setup is setting the action (Height of the strings off the fretboard) and the intonation (ensuring the string is the right length so the open note is the same as the 12th fret note)

To set your action you can 1, get a new nut to set the action near the tuning keys. But to set it yourself you can adjust it from the bridge. There are thumb screws under the bridge that allow you to raise or lower the bridge, thus raising or lowering the string.

To set your intonation you tune the open note, then fret the 12th fret and adjust the screw under that string on the bridge to adjust the length of the string, effecting the pitch. After your adjustment, retune the open note, then check the 12th fret again.

A setup is a little more than just setting the action and intonation.
Check out Roman's sticky. http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/epiphone-les-pauls/14714-complete-epi-custom-setup.html

You should really try to get into that because you are the only person in the whole wide world that can setup a guitar to your own preferences.

Ive read Roman's post at least 10 times :laugh2: and I dont know how many times I've read MattGreg's post on setting up his Gibby.

Ive ordered a GraphTech TUSQ nut and Im going to give installing the nut a go. I've also ordered some Dunlop fretboard oil and I plan on doing the fret board razor scrape when it arrives as well :)

Congrats on the new LP and amp! Getting new gear is always fun!

I do the minor adjustments myself, but when it comes to fret work etc..I pay to have that done, i don`t buy enough guitars to warrant buying the tools to do them properly myself.
