Have to say I've been looking forward to hearing a demo of one of the new 2019 Les Paul Custom's with the Ebony Fingerboard!
From Peach Guitars in the UK.
Those old 498 and 490 combo pickups sound like good old 80's early 90's rock n roll to me.

I love the 498/490 pickups. Have them in my 2001 Custom and my 1990 Standard. Wouldn't ever swap them out.

Yup, but for some reason they don’t get much love. I too really like them, true rock & roll pickups!

I wouldn’t swap them either on my ‘97 Standard, great for hard rock/grunge and cuts amazingly well through a mix. I enjoyed the video, love these alpine customs

Most find the 498/490 a bit tonally imbalanced.......such that they become hard to adjust for, as even on their own they exacerbate the issues present in each position.
And whilst they are probably quite ok pickups on their own if you could apply the same amp eq to the setup, its the issue of having them on the one guitar that is the issue.

Many swap the magnets between the two. Seems to work for many of those with issues.
