NEED URGENT HELP IDENTIFYING BURST REISSUE

Hey guys,

Local shop ID’s this guitar as a 2014 “1960 Goldie Burst” reissue... Say they got it from a Gibson roadshow, being sold as new.

The serial number is 0 4690 (which is an R0... but hats aren’t reflectors, there’s no pickguard/hole either). The colour is closer to a bourbon burst than a goldie... but DAMN that flame.

Please help me ID this thing, as Im in a littlw bidding war.

Also, some weird checkings on the headstock finish, not sure if something to be worried about

I can see what I think is checking on the headstock. It doesn't look like much to be worried about. However, this looks like a standard R0 to me. Maybe it is some "special" colour, who knows.

According to this Goldie Reissue should be a 59 not a 60. Unless you’re talking about a different Goldie.

That looks to me like a regular 2014 R0 Bourbon Burst Gloss.

Exactly!! There’s a CC Goldie (it’s basically essentially a CC 59* lemon burst)... this has the top of a 59 bourbon/deep cherry burst, the selector switch cap of a 60, hats of a 59/58, serial # of a 60... 8.5 pounds - 9 pounds, gonna try the neck and see if it fits an avg 60

I am not 100% positive on this but there was an early 1960 version that had a ‘59ish carved neck and non reflector gold top hats that represent the early 1960 models before the slim taper models of that year. VI, VII, and VIII to represent the three different versions.

I believe that this is the VI model RO.

I could very well be wrong of course.

There was run that was referred to as Goldie Gloss, which was supposed to represent what Goldie looked like when new. I can't remember if that was done as a finish option on regular R0s like this or not.

I'm thinking 3800 tops.($3500 for me to make a deal) I don't think it's a "run" that commands a premium price. Nice guitar though. Good luck!

Thanks for the help guys, the COA and tags indicate a special “goldie” gloss run with a handpicked top (hence why the pickguard is in case and hasnt been drilled in yet, even comes with an orange selector switch cap replacement hehe). Neck is something between a basic .89 - .99 59 profile and the 60 slim taper, havent had a chance to measure yet. 8.5lb

Once set up will make a NGD thread.

The white switch tip was added by someone...even both my CC #1 Aged and VOS CC #1 came with an amber switch tip when they were new.

The only runs I've ever encountered with the pickguard undrilled were those where Gibson went out of the way to find exceptional tops.

I think this one qualifies. Very nice score! Congrats!

I'm guessing here that the top hats were intentional to represent an early '60 reissue. I'm interested to see what you find after measuring the neck. I'm guessing it's in the .84 -.86 at the first range.

I bought my 2014 R8 new in 2017. If a guitar sits around the store for years and no one buys it, I guess it's still new. The shop I bought the R8 from has even a lot of older stock like this that is still considered new. I also bought a J-35 that claimed to be a 2018 model but had a 2015 serial number—now THAT's weird.

I'll bet it came from one of those shops where they like to remove the switch tips to keep them from being stolen or lost and they put the wrong one back on when they sold it. I bought an R8 from GC in 2016 (which I later sold because the neck was huge) and the guy grabbed a switch tip out of a little box he had behind the counter. I asked him how he could be sure he got the right one and he said they were all the same. Sure.

That IS a damn fine top too.

V1 neck .... which is what Gibson used to ,and if ordered still will do . But you get 1960 RI stamp on the HS .
IIRC Gibson did a small run of Goldie's in what they said was the "original" stain color IIRC "mfollet" (sorry if I've mis-spelled his handle ) had 1 , maybe PM him and see if he can get you some info about that run .

Looks to me like a V1 RO ....
4 years old ? New ? Not IMO .... I'd bet it's been played some ,which makes it USED ....

Nice top on that 1 .... But ,IMO ,Still needs Reflectors

I wouldn't get into a bidding war over it . With all the upgrades Gibson has done since , paying to much ,imo would be throwing $$$ away .
Unless it's that 1 , you Just "have to Have"
So many newer 1's around ,looking for a home .
