I need to change the bridge pickup of my tokai japanese Sg. It's got two p90s, the neck pickup sounds like heaven to me. the problem is in the bridge one.. it sounds very thin like a strat bridge, no bass response, lots of high ends, and there is a difference in the output volume between the bridge and the neck one. the neck sounds fuller, well balanced and with more volume.
I checked in ebay and I found some pickups :
seymour duncan hot SP90-2
tonerider hot p90 alnico V
gibson p90
gibson p 100
gfs p90 and gfs p180

anyone tried one of those? which is the thicker sounding with more low end?

thanks to everyone in advance.

I would try duncan sp90-2 or sp90-3. Also, dimarzio makes p90 sized humbuckers, it will make the bridge position more beefy, but yeah, it won't be a single coil anymore.

id check out lollar or fralin and get it wound to meet your needs to match the neck.

There are lot of good makers of P90s in the market. But i will show you the point: A thin bridge means that the current P90 has only few windings and bright sounding magnets. In your case probably a resistance of the coil with about 8000 ohms and A5 magnets, i guess. First solution (cheapest): Try to change the magnet to a A8 and a A4 (there a lot of offers on ebay). I did that with a Gibson P90 (you see the Gibson has the same problem) and was pleased with the result. Second solution you send your current pup to a winder and let them rewind and re-magnet. Look into guys like Zhangbucker or brandonwound or others.
If you buy one new, make sure its a higher wind like 9k.

Before condemning the pickup and spending more money, I would try backing the tone control off to control the highs, and lower the neck pickup until you get a better balance, volume wise, between the two. I refer you to the sticky at the top of this forum.

The height of your pickups significantly affect their sound.

Wolfetone Meaner,great pickup.
Regular Duncan alnico is good but I would get an Antiquity better(as I did in my Tokai).

Maybe so, but what he's describing in the original post is poor pickup positioning. If he installs new units the same way he has them now he will still experience the same issues.

Still, his money.
