Ok, my high E string buzzes when played open. I have ruled out buzzing at the bridge because this only happens when it is played open, and the string is touching the 1st fret. So now the question is; how do I get that string to move up and get off the fret? I have tried to raise the action, but by the time the buzzing cuts out the action is so high it is unplayable.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

depending on the cut of the nut slots, you could,potentially..go up a gauge in strings as the thicker string will sit higher in the slot....or,you could just get a new nut :)

Your nut is bad or the fret has risen. You can fix the nut with some crazy glue and baking soda. Fill The nut slot with baking soda and drop a small drop onto the soda. File the slot to depth with a steak knife(seems to work if you don't have nut files). This repair won't last long but it will work for a while.

Well this is certainly going to be a bugger. Everything was fine a couple of weeks ago, and the nut is made of bone so I don't see the string cutting deeper into the nut. And I'm in the middle of some extremely varying weather so I think I'll ask the guy down at the local shop if the fret popped up or something. If not I am going to have to score a line around my nut and pop it out... and learn how to slot a new nut.
