need opinions please

Not new to playing but new to getting right tone, been playing for 35 + years but always played on what was available. I play left handed epi les paul through a marshall avt2000 amp. I want to get a good southern rock tone within my budget. ie maybe 59 duncan pick ups, but I think maybe compressor pedal, and sustain pedal, and such might help but don't want to buy stuff and it not work. any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Heard a guy get a great southern rock tone with a P 90 LPG straight into a Mesa Nomad 55 2/12 amp. Those amps are out of production and are pretty cheap used.

Maybe try an old Peavey amp like a Classic.
