My guitar tech needs a little help with wiring my 3 pickup guitar. We have a straight switchcraft 3 way switch for 3 pickups:

We are trying to get
toggle up: neck pickup
toggle mid: bridge pickup + middle pickup
toggle treble: bridge pickup.

Can you help? Thank you!

The lower set of 3 contacts operates same as a standard 3-way switch.
The upper pair is closed in the middle and up position, but because the output contact is in parallel with the bridge, it is not connected through the lower set of contacts.

Is he a new guitar tech or never really done a Gibson 3 way before? Just curious.

It would worry me that your guitar guy couldn't work this out.

The fact that he also doesn't seem to know how to search the internet is also baffling

He's a luthier, not an electrician. He can build any guitar from scratch. He did end up figuring it out.

A guitar tech should understand this stuff. It isn't rocket science or indeed , degree level electronics. Ultimately though, if you're happy with the work he does then it's all good

There is variance in the design of the switches that he had in hand compared to the switch that was in the diagram. To make it work, he had to map out the switch and draw each branch of the circuit. There isn't much info about this particular wiring when you google it. The switch in the diagrams is not the same as what is available for sale.

I had to click on the listing as I presumed it was a regular 3 way but it's a 6 terminal 3 way switch. No idea that the difference or advantage is for this but sure looks different.

I was pleasantly surprised to see my Epiphone Bonamassa was wired "properly", at least in operation.... I haven't traced everything out, but the routing of the wiring looks correct to the original Gibson drawings.
Seems that most 3-pickup models, at least those done by DIY and some imports, use a master tone and run the middle pickup to a blender pot.
More modern DIY jobs use a freeway switch or similar, but that gets to be too "busy"

Best I can tell, this is how it would translate to the drawing.
The Allparts site lets you blow it up.
