Hey,
since I have been searching for a new Guitar, i thought I'd ask here.
What I want is:

1-piece, solid mahogany body
1-piece mahogany set neck, long tenon/deep joint
2-piece solid flamed/plain maple top
open book headstock
not reliced
available in burst finishes
great sound ;)
Original LP-Style, not something like the PRS Singlecuts etc.
either Nitro- or Poly-Finish, but NOT Nitro over Poly.
should cost up to 1400€

Thanks! :slash:

what is your question? do you want someone to pick a guitar for you? basically the only way to get a guitar that you are certain that you will like, is to go out and play as many as you can find and find one that speaks to you. there is no way that a stranger on an internet forum is going to be able to make that decision for you. not trying to sound like a jerk, that is not my intention at all, just saying that you really need to play a lot of guitars to find one for you.

i know. but testing guitars here is really hard, most of the good japanese brands aren't available around here... the only good guitars i get to play are made by Gibson, and those are wayyyyyy to expensive.
If I buy a guitar over the net and don't like it, i can give it back in most cases.
Thanks for your answer, anyway :)

Regardless of testing, pretty much any set necked 80's Burny or Greco is going to be a winner, trust me.

I have played a few different brands of MIJ LP styles & very few of these will have set specs for number of pieces that comprise the body, with the exception of some Tokai models from the late 1970 to early 1980 period, and some Bacchus models from the late 1990 to early/mid 2000 period.

of these two brands, and the respective periods I have mentioned, there are some 1 piece body back models that are IMO worth considering.

AFA 1 piece body back LPs go, I believe that Bacchus are a the best bang for the buck :)

Many people here seem to hate them which is just fine by me but I happen to like them :thumb:

Of course, they won't be new, and they have a very thin nitro lacquer over a very thin poly so, you would probably hate them too.

You should probably just stick with a Givson .............................

What you are attempting to do is akin to asking us to pick a wife (for life)
for you based on stats you supply, which is crazy IMHO.

I think the only way you are going to be truly happy is to do your own research on this forum and others, long enough to develop your own opinions on various models and features. Opinions vary and only your opinions will matter to you.
The fact you can't demo any live + buying online poses risks and possible errors in judgement.
More research = less mistakes.
If it's a "lifer" invest a little more of your own time or be ready to settle for a divorce. :)

Like VintageJIM said, early Tokai LS-80+ usually have 1 piece backs. All LS-120+ do but all have medium tenons.
Newer LS150+ Tokais have 1 piece backs and medium - long tenons but are probably Nitro over Poly (which is probably as good or better than Poly only).

I think the question itself qualifies as research, give him a break.
Can't seem to be able to come up with something that matches the complete picture within that budget. MIJs aren't that cheap anymore.
Aria Pro II LS800s? I'm not sure about the solid top & nitro on those, anyone?

Sorry, I wasn't making fun.. just a lighthearted observation.
Why not one of the newer production Tokais?

I'd have to agree on this! I just love the tone of my Burny Super Grade 1981 solid maple plain top. It's not the most beautiful guitar ever but it has that nasal mid rich "Greeny" sort of tone even when not plugged in. I just love it. Some one here on the forum said that the RLG-50:s where the budget LP-models with plain tops, poly and short tenon but for some reason they picked some fantastic lumber though. Mine has a three piece Mahogany back but who cares...It beats the crap out of my Gibson LP std 2002 (My avatar) by far. So...get a Burny and you'll be set for life! :dude::dude:

Nitro over poly up to LS160?
Are there issues related to nitro over poly such as peeling or chipping ?
I thought it would be the best of both worlds,
The toughness of Poly with the feel and touch up capabilities of Nitro...

I think the OP wants pure nitro, which only comes with 'top fuel', or 'AA BAD' class dragsters :laugh2: .............

I'll make a quick suggestion, drop the whole buyer's fear thing. There are a lot of people who buy and flip guitars until they get ones they like.

. . . and there's some people that regret selling that last one . . .
