Moving here from original post in Gibson Les Paul section

Ok I have a 1990 LP Studio I was Troglying the guitar during restring. I know they are supposed to be 490R/498T pickups but they had different backings. The bridge pick up had barely visable numbers on it & was wondering if it is original and/or can someone ID it.

It almost looks like a date stamp 10.2.73, buy looking at the photo possibly 10.2.79

take a pic of entire pickup, both front back sides would help....are those the only stamp numbers?

That is the PAT# stamping on the baseplate.
The first 498/490 pickups used the same baseplate type as for the Shaw pickups in the 80's (and nominally the T-tops before then) .
The difference being that the new baseplates were drilled with one wider spaced set of holes, which is denoted by the T stamp (semi buried by the solder flux).
Once the Custom Shop started the factory floor became 'Gibson USA', and the baseplates were embossed with that logo.

i still have a 1990 Studio that had that exact combo

i asked that exact question when i first joined here....

wine color, ebony board with gold hardware?

i stripped the wine finish as i had another 1993 with wine finish which i stripped as well

sprayed it black, everything else the same as i found it

plays great
