All priced too high, in my opinion. The 68s are the better choice, in my opinion. You should be able to get a blackface Twin for that kinda money.

The first has a decent price. There are some great deals to be had with any Twin. They're very heavy and extremely loud. People, sometimes figure it out too late that this is not the amp they were looking for. I love mine.

I've never seen Alnico EV's before... :hmm:

The amps are way overpriced, even so.

Thanks for the responses everyone, the other amplifiers that I've been looking at have been mainly Mesa Boogie and I'm realy loving the Electra Dyne and the Roadster I played around with at a shop. What do you guys think about those 2?

IMO, the Electra Dyne is like a trip to heaven. I have never played one, but the tones I've heard out of them are the sweetest. Stupid simple to use, compare to other Mesa amps, yet it has many useable features, and great reverb. You will love it if you buy it.

I dunno, Joe - they're twice as expensive as what he was looking at. (Granted, that is the way I'd go if I were going to get a Twin - after doing some research).

I agree that the Blackface is the logical way to go... but the 68s are still great amps at 1/2 the price.

What about looking at a less expensive Blackface? Bassman/Bandmaster? Even a Deluxe Reverb or something in that size? Twins are a whole lot of amp, and very heavy!

I'm recently getting in to old Fender amps. I'm absolutely in love w/ my '67 Blackface Bassman given the $700 I paid for it.

Just a quick question: why a Twin in particular? They're heavy and they're incredibly loud.

I hear ya... I would go with a reissue then. Unless he definitely wants vintage and can get it for a good price. Just remember... there is a reason that you don't see a whole lot of vintage black face twin reverbs. Food for thought.

Listen to this silver face. This is one of our own forum members video. He actually has a shit load of very cool vids. He's been through some pretty cool vintage combos. This vid, he pulls out 2 of the 4 power power tubes and cranks it to 7.

I'm realy not looking into a reissue but its been hard to find a vintage black face in my area so far.

There is a 70's bassman at a small shop nearby that I'm aiming to try out this weekend that could be a possibility, also found a '53 pro amp there some relics in that shop.

I totally agree, they are so damn versatile. But the Roadster Dual Rectifier is a f*ckin beast.

Thanks Dice, this will help a lot in my search for the Holy Grail :D

No doubt. I knew dick about Fender amps last week. I now know enough to "get around" in discussion.

I was in looking at a few great amps today... a '66 Deluxe Reverb, '66 Vibrolux Reverb, and '65 Bandmaster. (The first two were at $2k - the Deluxe is stupid clean... the Bandmaster at $1k w/ a nice original cab). I was actually looking at that site from my Blackberry while talking to the shop owner, double checking is prices! :laugh2: He was right on the money... (probably looks at that site himself!)

...
The reason I ask is that the Super Reverb has the same preamp and tone circuit and therefore shares a lot of the same voicing characteristics of the Twin. However, the Super is powered by only two 6L6GCs instead of four. With a valve rectifier it's nominally a 45-50 Watt amp, so you can get the sonority of a cranked blackface amp at more sensible volumes than with a Twin. If you want the slightly harder attack of the Twin, you could stick a solid state recto in it and will come in at about 60 Watts with much less sag into the bargain.

Silverface Super Reverbs up to 1974-5 didn't have a master volume, unlike the Twins which got the master vol in 1972. Silver to blackface is a simple mod any decent tech can do for very little time and money.

If you use a cleaner tone and want to move a little air as well, a early SF Twin (68-69) is a good choice but I've never paid more than 600$ for one. Use less efficient speakers if you want to get some breakup and reduce the volume. There are plenty of them around, they are solid as a rock, and make the RI look like a doglegged barbeque stick.
