OR.. get you hands on a MIJ Epiphone. Superior built and quality.

Ditto! Search on Ebay, don't get in a hurry, or a bidding war, and you should be able to pick up a MIJ Epi Custom for 7-8 hundred bucks. Not that much more than a U.S. market EPI custom. Just take your time as prices on them vary quite a bit, as people are catching on to the quality. As a bonus they come with a open book headstock. And the limiteds come with a laquer finish.

MIJ Epiphone's are the same thing as the Elitists. They both are made in the same factory. The only difference is the headstock. The MIJ's have a Gibson style headstock and the Elitists have a different kind of headstock as the MIJ's and the normal Epiphone's.

Yes they both do come from the same factory... but I won't really call it the same as an Elitist, very similar yes. I've yet to try the Elitist but the neck on my MIJ custom is the most comfortable, thinnest neck I've tried on an LP.

The limiteds also come with ebony boards on the customs. :dude:..
And I got my MIJ Custom for about US$550, a reeal steal. Just don't rush a guitar purchase unless you know what you're getting is pure quality..

gibby studios are like standards without make up. forget the binding and the finish and its a standard. some people may prefer the gibby, I just cant pass the cosmetic thing. btw, I completely chose an elitist over a gibby studio, totally blind, since I live in argentina and theres NO elitists here and few VM. I cant tell you anything since my guitar hasnt arrived yet, but the great people in this forums made up my mind, and I hope I get a kickass guitar!

I've started saving up to upgrade from my Squire strat to an LP with a few choices in mind.....

1.) Epiphone les paul standard

2.)Epiphone les paul '56 Goldtop

3.)Gibson LP studio vintage mahogany

Which would you suggest and why?

I prefer the '56 Gold Top, because I like the P-90s. I have had two, and the Chinese ones are much nicer(don't say a word, any of ya!) than the Korean ones.
Both of your other choices are fine guitars, also. The Epiphone Standard is about the same price, but the Gibson Studio is a bit more expensive.
Good luck!:thumb:

Elitist all the way, no Studio is on par with it and I will argue most new gibby Standards can't hang with it either..... good luck

I just wrote a song with my LP, I called it "I beg to differ".

I guess I should clarify a bit, I did upgrade pups and guts to help a bit

Don't get me wrong, Elitists great guitars!! But a Vintage Mahogany at $699 is pretty unbeatable! I'll agree, they are not very exciting looking guitars, but the FEEL, the wood, the tone is just exceptional for the money IMO (thats In Most Opinions:)). Hell, if you like an Elitist enough for the money to not buy a regular Gibson Studio, or Standard, more power to ya! I had the dough for maybe one of the only right times in my life, and met the right 06' Gibson LP Standard. If I couldn't spend more than $900-$1000, and wanted an LP, an Elitist Standard or Custom would certainly get another shot with me along with the Gibson Studio lines. All are great guitars!
