I am looking to join the ranks of LP ownership.

A local Guitar Center has a 2004 Honeyburst Standard for sale for $1,650. It looks great and has very light wear on the front and back. The most noticeable blemishes are some light oxidation on the stop bar and the pickup covers.

It was too much of a zoo in there today with other customers to be able to plug it in and play it. I'm contemplating going back tomorrow during business hours when it is not so busy so I can hear what it sounds like.

The tag had a little "Repaired By" stamp with a guy's initials. I asked the sales guy what damage it had and he said they stamp the tag to show they've looked at it, made sure the pickup selector works, checked the intonation, etc.

I have not looked extensively but that seems like a pretty good price for a 2004. I thought I'd post and see what some of the veteran owners in here think.

Thanks in advance for sharing any thoughts you may have.

If you play it and really want to buy it, I would tell them you are prepared
to offer them $1400 and that you are serious and will close the deal right away,
then see what they say, you can figure they likely took it in on trade and
maybe have $1000-1200 into it

Guitar Center usually won't negotiate used gear pricing unless it's been there for 90 days +
It's an okay price as is

Make sure it does not have a repaired headstock crack.

There were '59s type necks (chunkier) and '60s type necks (Slim tapered) at the time.
Just play it for a while and if it "talks" to you, try to get a better price or free stuff but in the end, if you like it, buy it.

2004's were nice.
And Honeyburst is one the best finishes!

2004 standards should be very good guitars but I see this one a bit overpriced... If you can negotiate the price and save a couple of hundreds, it would be a good deal !

nothing much to say here. but i have 60s neck profile made year 2004, got it around Yen 168,000 (USd 1496).

neck definitely fells different as compared to 50's neck profile of 2006 lp standard. but not that really noticeable between 50s and 60s necks. however, R7 neck way too huge as compared to 50s and 60s.

heres the guitar
