I have a set of 1962 PAFs . I finally aquired some very nice 50's gibson covers and want to use them. when I fit them on the pickups, the holes line up perfectly with the screws and these things do look awsome. If I snug the cover all the way down it actually sinks ever so slightly deeper in the scew pole bobbin than on the slug side. (Same with both pickups and covers.) I don't think it is noticeable to look at but the question is, should I press the pickups in as snuggly as possible (even if slightly uneven) or should I leave some small bit of room between bobbins and covers? I do not intend to pot these. should I? I know the problem sounds trivial but I have some money in these things and want to get it right. thanks for any advice

If you leave any space inside you'll suffer the wrath of uncontrollable microphonics.

If you don't plan to pot them put a little masking tape over the slugs before installing the cover and clamp it down snugly before soldering. Another option is to melt a thin layer of wax into the inside top of the cover and them snug it down on the bobbins. You don't want any air space between the bobbins and cover.
