Which neck profile do you prefer on your Les Paul and/or SG and why?

50s rounded profile that measures .818” at the 1st fret and .963” at the 12th. (specs from a 2013 50's tribute neck)

60s slim profile that measures .800” at the 1st fret and .875” at the 12th. (specs from a 2013 60's tribute neck)

*sorry for the type-o in the poll, can't seem to edit it.

I prefer the 60's slim. I don't have big hands and I don't have to work as hard to chord or solo (with the limited talent that I have). :naughty: However, some guys with small hands prefer the 50's profile.

It's all a preference thing. I have a LP with the 50's profile as well. I love the guitar but I can't play it as long (or as comfortably) as the 60's profile. To each his own.

It is simple for me. I get up and down the neck faster with a 60's neck. I have a guitar with a 50's chunky neck. I have more trouble sliding into notes and chords with it.

I can't really decide on a preference. I have both and like both.

My next guitar I'm going to custom carve the neck somewhere in between the two and possibly asymmetrical with a more C shape on the bass side and more taper on the treble side

I like both profiles. My Signature T has a 60s. If I have to choose I would prefer the 60s Slim Taper.

My older LP was 60s slim and I loved it. My newer Lite's neck is just a smidge thicker, and I love it even more! But it's not as thick as others that I've played. I voted 50s above.

I have both and, even "feeling better" with 60's, the 50's also get comfortable to me after some minutes.

I've had my ES 345 for four years now and i guess i just got used to the slim neck, i love my R9, when i got it new i thought the big neck would be better for some reason, but i can play a lot better when i go back to the 345

I go back and forth. Asymmetrical (a little thinner on the treble side) would be my ultimate preference.

I am going to shave the neck of my LPJ to more of an asymmetrical shape.

The bigger, the better. Even 50s rounded is too slim for my likings.

has anyone else make the same observation ?
I have noticed people with small hand an short fingers ( myself incl' ) tend to play with the thumb high on the back of the neck and prefer 50's necks, while people with longer fingers tend to place the tip of the thumb in the centre of the neck ( textbook style ) an prefer slimer necks,

its no rule, but jus something have noticed

I think you're onto something there, I have noticed people saying that people with big hands prefer 50s profile, but my personal observations are closer to yours.

50's neck is a bit too thick for me, but I like it. I like both, but I prefer slim taper 60;s.

50s. 60s gives me cramp across the palm of my hand in no time.
