New cab day yesterday! Bought an unloaded early Mesa Thiele on eBay, good not abused condition with Tuki cover. Wanted to downsize from a 212 to something more portable (the Laney GS212IE was great but if I had to carry the cab out it's too bulky).

Took out the Eminence Governor and Swamp Thang from the Laney cab and had a sit down to choose which would go into the thiele and ended up choosing the Swamp Thang.

Only had a few minutes to play the cab but it sounds good so far. Still have yet to try to play it loud.

Now all I need is to find the Mesa plate...

Congrats. That's my favorite 1x12 cab with an EVM12L.

Congrats.

These cabs supposedly have increased low response.
How does it sound? Big? I'm kind of going back to a smaller rig ATM.

So far from what I can tell it does sound big. Never tried a ported cab so I can't compare but to compare my 212 cab, I can already hear the thump. Can't wait to hear it loud.. And yeap the portability is a definite plus...

Just gotta figure how to stack my Mark IV widehead on top :/

Eminence Delta Pro 12A is supposed to be a close copy.

Might be a good match-up for this cab.

I sense a winter project :D DIY Thiele + Delta Pro 12A :D

So how's the verdict on the cab?

Yay? Nay? :slash:

In a word....huge, compared to their actual size.

Haha. The cab is a definite yay. Size and punch is crazy. I can't imagine if the 12L was inside.. But I'm a happy camper for sure :D.

I saw the plates on Mesa site. Just gonna ask them if the new plate will match the old style.

I'm extremely impressed with the Mesa Thiele cab. To the point I'm going to buy or build one. They have tight low freqs and articulate highs.

Trying to figure out what a Mesa C90 speaker is. Anyone know?

This demo sold me on the Thiele.

I didn't look up much demos of thiele cabs but I did read up on them and I had this sound in my head of how the bass response was like and yeap it didn't disappoint.

Of course the speakers in them matters too but I think it's a fantastic design.

That video is awesome btw. Thiele convert worthy.

I know they are Celections - made in the UK. I've read that they are tweaked G12-80s but I can't substantiate that. I put one in a 1x12 open back cab that I made to go with my Express 5:25+ and am happy with it but I haven't played through many different cabs and speakers to compare its sound against other speakers.

I used to use one as an extension with a Deluxe Reverb (with a switchable 4/8ohm output tranny). With the EV-loaded Boogie cab and JJ 6V6s, it could easily hang with any Super Reverb. Also makes a great compact pairing with D-type amps.

I've been looking for a portable cab for jamming with my mark v. I might have to look into one of these.

Holy focus.

The cabinet was designed specifically for the EV. You really won't know what it can do until you put one of those in it. All the difference.

If you're doing DIY stuff, look up speakerhardware.com.

If you're using a modeler, put together one of their Greenboy fEARful Design Kits (they have flat packs), specifically the 12/6/1. The finished speaker *with drivers and crossovers installed* will be under 40 lbs, surprisingly compact, will easily handle 600W (yup, I got that number right). And if you want to talk about low end punch, just put an amp with about that much power into it and see what you get.
