I really, really like my Marshall Origin 20. I've been running it through 2 1x12 VHT cabs, which honestly works fine - but I also wanted the "Marshall Stack" vibe. Also, as I'm looking for a band, I wanted 1 2x12 cab that still had reasonable weight for fewer trips rather than carrying 2 cabs. I still have the option of going 1x12 with the previous cabs as well. So, I went unto the Sweetwater website and snagged a Marshall Origin 212 vertical cab.

My initial impressions are quite favorable. At about 50 pounds, with good handles, I can easily carry it in one hand. It seems a lot of people don't like the 70/80 speakers - so far I like them well enough, but I did buy the cab with the knowledge that I might want to change them out later. They work at home practice volume...I haven't gotten a chance to really open it up yet. I've also heard that they require some break-in time, so they're going to stay in the cab for a couple months at the very lease.

For pure cosmetics, I freaking love the look. It looks like a little Marshall stack, and nothing looks more rock-n-roll to me than a Marshall stack.

A match made in heaven, Les Paul into a Marshall.

That cab looks good with your amp. But I do find an advantage of two 1X12 cabs .because they can be placed at differing locations in the playing area to provide better sound saturation in the venue.

Yes, truth in that. A 4 x 12" in particular, but also closed-back cabs in general, are directional. They beam the sound, which means that certain parts of the stage (therefore, your band-mates) and venue don't get much of it. But the audience directly in front of the 4 x 12" get pulverised.

There's been some interesting work done recently on guitar speaker cabs that spread the sound without the "power loss" and "backdraft" effects of a simple open-back cabinet. The Barefaced Audio AVD is really the pioneer here, a new product with some common aims is the Rawrawk Quasar.

These both (in theory) solve the dispersion problem with a single small lightweight cabinet. The snag for some will be that they don't "look right" underneath your big old valve head ....

They were doing these cabs on sale with V30s, Creambacks, or Greenbacks a while back. I almost snagged one. The sale may come around again for the holidays (I hope)

Actually, when I play out (a very rare thing these days) I do not place my amp head on top of a speaker cab. Instead, I spread my 1X12 cabs out on stands angled somewhat upward. A also put the amp head on a stand also angled upward, allowing me to clearly see the knobs and adjust them as is needed. The speaker cabs are placed as far away from me as the venue has space for, so I hear what the audience hears.

That rig looks brilliant. HNCD!

I always wanted a Marshall stack. But living in an apartment and only playing at home meant it looks like this.

A mighty 1w going into a 10" Celestion Goldback. Won't fill Madison Square Garden but plenty enough for my needs.

My Origin 5 makes a good 1x8" cab as the controls are on the top, and I have an adapter that will let me plug into the speaker.
Can't find the pic I took, though.

Well, I must say; that I have never played with a soundman or any sound system. When I played, what came out of my speakers is what the audience got. So my speaker spreading did well for me. But if things are miked and mixed, this wouldn’t be a factor. For practice in my small music room, I often use a Bugera G5 head, all tube and class A hooked into my two 1X!2 cabs. The amp can be set on 5W, 1W, or .1W. I use the 1W setting. The clean channel is wimpy, but gain can be dialed down on the overdrive channel to get a good clean tone if desired. But having two 1X12loafed cabs is the way I roll, whether in a small practice room or a rather large venue. Except for a larger venue, I’ll take my Soul tramp Wraith head. While thought of as a metal amp, it can be dialed in for jazz and even acoustic. Very versatile.

Wow OP, that is one nice looking (and presumably great sounding) stack. Congrats!

Gotta love the Origin!
