Had this for a while now, seems to be settling in quite nicely.
As per title, ebony-boarded, refretted 1979 Tokai LC-100. Board is stamped but very faint, possibly worn down during the refret.

This thing has been played really hard... loads of dings and dongs, a break in the topcoat shows a mahogany top and bottom... can't see a seam line in the cavities so it might be a 1-piece body.

Weighs 4.28kg, neck similar to my LS-100 (chunky 59), good balance, gotoh pickups are pants but it all plays pretty well. Now on to the porn...

Glad to hear you got one with a slightly thicker neck and for a pretty decent price too, congrats !

Nice! Too bad about the nibs. Maybe you can re-nib it?

Lovely indeed. Mine has the Gotoh pickups in it as well and I actually think they're pretty good. Mine is a one-piece body for sure, so I expect yours is the same.

thanks guys

i can live without the nibs... it's quite liberating to actually bend aggressively without worrying about them. this is definitely the more rock and roll of my 2 les pauls

That's a Rock N' Roll and good looking Custom! Did you have it shipped by SAL or what it's called?

What was the price? Don't see it mentioned in the thread - but I am trying to find out what these old Tokai's go for since they seem to get the highest rating here in MIJ forum for best vintage MIJ to get.

Congrats Mono on a cool looking all 'Hog roock-n-roll machine!

price is what you're willing to pay ;)

Reborn Old seemed to know you got it at a "decent price" so thought it was public knowledge, Mono. Not trying to pry, and not looking to buy... :thumb:

just trying to learn value of old Tokais and (somewhat) old Navigators.

For what it's worth: wulfman sold me a guitar very similar to this one, and in similar condition, earlier this year for $1600 shipped from Singapore. This is considered a very good price for this rare model.

I got mine for $800 with a broken headstock. It was an easy fix and plays like a dream. :thumb:

ah dont worry about it... it wasnt cheap, ill say that much. UK customs and shipping did a number on me (when will i learn?).. but it was 120k yen on yahooo japan before all that

not sure i'm going to keep it to be honest... seem to play less and less these days, and having money tied up in them isn't ideal for my situaton.
edit: decided not to keep it after all... you guys are lucky owning your own house/car etc outright (if you do).. I'm in need of quick cash and this one's out the door soon after it gets in :/

Congrats on a nice Tokai. Whenever anything is played enough to get a refret you know the previous owner(s) played the crap out of it.
