NO way 1/4" at Least! :run:

You may mock me, but that amount of finish shows how little Gibson cares to to it right.

They spray 3X the amount of lacquer on the guitar, so they son't have to be careful leveling it when it's finished. It's cheaper to waste lacquer than to pay someone for more time to do a careful leveling.

It makes sense, if you go thru the clear into the color, that's a full strip and respray. Still sucks.

Thinking ab out it, you can almost see how thick it is when you look at the edges of an aged area, where the finish is chipped off.

I'm not mocking you at all ..I joke about Gibson's extra thickness from the past....I have had a few that were pretty "Poured on"

My 2011 went to HM just for that reason....

Your right it would be easier to level and buff without a burn through.

In fact I think the 2011 had many coats of amber to give it that color that it had....which was beautiful....but too thick

Well I came down off my GAS high and realized I'm not going to go for a standard 17. With a HM what's the point. Nothing i ever buy from Gibson will ever be as close to spec as that so why spend the cash. Not like me but glad I didn't have the opportunity to buy in the last 2 weeks.

Same here. I will probably sit out 2017. I love my 2014 VOS Skinnerburst so much that I don't really GAS for another Historic Les Paul.

If I buy another guitar in 2017 it will probably be a cheaper priced non Gibson. For me personally I have all the higher end Gibsons covered for my needs and personal tastes. I'm not worried about Historical Accuracy, etc... anymore. To much money for little very difference IMO.

R8, R9, LP Custom, 2 335's and a killer sounding '99 Classic in my stable. That is really all I need. :D

You guys really think Gibson will do some stupid **** again this year? They should have learned their lesson.

You can hardly give these things away these days. $4000 plain top R8? Still not top of the line? Thank you, no.

By reorginanizing the lineup for 2017 back to just one Historic Reissue per year, besides the M2M program, I think they have learned a major lesson.

IMO this is the best move they could have made at this point in time, even though I'm still not really in the market for a 2017. :D

They do offer a nice service but their prices are extreme for what they do IMO. Just my personal opinion. :D

HM do not build guitars. They modify existing models but many of their packages cost more than new Gibson Historic Reissues??

I'm sure if you look around there are guys in your area that will do the same service.

Just went through some of Gibson 2017 USA LP models ..What it appears to be happening with this 1 ..,imo is a cross over of USA & CS model guitars .
In the same vain of what The Historic line is morphing into ....

Might be a nice upgrade for those who like the USA line of guitars . The price ,IMO , will make them very competitive to those who can't/wont deal with the high prices of a Standard CS LP.
Of course ,, It's not and wont feel like a CS built git .... And that's big imo ...
Nylon string nut(beats all the others that USA uses today ,imo) Aluminum Stop tail .....

It should be very interesting to see what Gibson goes as the final (start of the new year model anyway) with the CS LP Historic line ....

Buy used Historics and stay out of the mess of craziness

1.695" @ nut,
$2,299 :wow:

So ...........basically you have to ORDER a TH thru the M2M program. I have to ask, There is no longer a "stock" True Historic??

That's right! Even the regular Historic now have to be ordered at your dealer as they won't carry anymore in store...that's what I've been told by 3 dealers now

Sweetwater has a new '17 True Historic BB7 here:

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LPB7TVEBGH

Looks to have all the same features as my '15 BB7. Right down to the hand sanded finish. Even the same MAP. Hell the serial number is even the same 'cept for year of production. But it is over a pound heavier than mine.
