I've had an older BE-100 for a while and absolutely love it. Have been wanting to get one of the 2016 updated versions so I sprung for one. The new updates are pretty cool and add a lot of versatility. Also bought a dirty Shirley mini- probably my favorite of them all. Nothing like 20 watts on full volume, completely rocks. Yes I could have sent my older BE to Dave and have him modify it but the turnaround time would take forever and was worried I’d get it back and not like it as much as before. Going to play both BE’s for a few weeks and might sell whichever one I like less and get a JJ.

I own the older BE and I'm interested in the newer model. Let me know what you like or don't like about it. Is there a big difference between the two?

The new one (2016 update) isn’t quite as polished sounding as the earlier versions I’d say. The updated one has a more aggressive sounding upper mid range and the low end can be dialed out more if that makes sense. I really like it. A lot more versatile. Not taking away from the earlier versions, they are killer too. I have actually been talking to Dave Friedman about building me a new one with the JBE mod... we shall see.

Congrat, Let us know how it all turns out. I'm in the same situation, have had my BE100 since 2014 but it's been to Dave's shop for a repair in late 2015 and he did a couple updates but not the 2016 updates, and I'm starting to think they may not be for me. There's been some honesty on Friedman subform of RT that a few have sold their new BE50 Deluxe just to go back to buying another BE100.
