OOOH, and SG w/p-90s! Judging from your Forum name, you must be a Sabbath fan? On their older stuff, Iommi used an SG w/p-90s

Yeah, definitely a big fan of their early stuff and that awesome P-90/Rangemaster tone Iommi got in those days. My Soldano actually does a better Sabbath tone, a bit more low end and headroom for sure - sounds really close to Master of Reality with the right settings.

These days though my tone is definitely more Mick Jones/Steve Jones/Johnny Thunders inspired.

Congrats. A great amp and one of my favorite Celestion speakers (G12-H30) in the combo.

Yeah, I'm really digging the G12H30 so far - I tried the TT through my G12M's and have to say I prefer the stock speaker, it's just perfectly suited to the amp.

Thanks man, I'm really digging it too - I used to have a Marshall VM100 head and the tone of the TT straight in reminds me a lot of the tone I got from the VM's lead channel boosted with a Germanium FuzzFace.

I just love it when amps let me plug straight in and get exactly the tone I need without having to run pedals at all - I found the same thing with my Soldano. There's nothing wrong with running pedals or boosts, but it's so much more convenient to bring just a guitar, amp, and cable to a gig or jam and know that it'll all you need.

Congrats, I've got a TT combo and it's an impressive piece.

Nice, I bet that "Canadian Maple" R9 in your pic sounds just deadly though it.

I had a chance to play one of those limited run R9's that came with the little bottle of maple syrup a few years ago. It belonged to a customer that brought it in to the store I worked in for a setup...and it was among the nicest LP's I've been fortunate enough to try.

HNAD! I've had my used TT for over a year and the JJ's that came with it are still performing great (and certainly not sounding like broken glass). This amp does share its time with my VOX, but it has been gigged and jammed hard. I use it for all my RAWK tone needs, e.g early AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, the Tragically Hip and plenty others. As long as it's distorted, you will be loud enough to play with a live drummer. Mine keeps up with volume to spare. :)

Good to hear some positive feedback on the JJ's, as they're fairly cheap and readily available if I need a quick replacement on the road.

I'm definitely finding it to be plenty loud, and quite versatile - I've heard much pricier amps that didn't clean up nearly as well using the guitar volumes. I leave the gain just under noon, and between 5 and 10 on the guitar volume I get a great range of sparkly cleans to full on "Raw Power" type lead tones.

Seriously impressed.

It's quoted out there, somewhere on the web that the TT's designer wanted to make it sound voiced like the first four AC/DC albums. I set it at 15W, gain-noon, tone-3:00 and volume at noon-1:00 and I can't argue. I pop my Bad Monkey in front of it and get a perfect, compressed Classic RAWK tone.

I'll stick with JJ's as they have been working great. I've got a set of EHX tubes that I got off a MLP member, I had good luck with their EL-34s. I'm unsure about investing in old glass EL84s.

mix them. you will be amazed. I am running a 12m EVH and an h30 anni. Best of both, drawbacks of neither.

I thought about putting one of the G12M's in the TT and having a mix of both in my 2x12, although I'd probably lose some volume in the TT that way.

I just popped a pair of Electro-Harmonix EL-84s into my TT and played for about a half hour. It still sounds fantastic! TBH, I couldn't really hear a difference, time will tell how long they last.

I've been running mine at full tilt, at least an hour a day since I got it and I'm really surprised that I haven't blown what look to be the original EL84s.

The guy I bought it from gave me his original receipt dated Dec. 08...he must've barely used it or only ever run it at 7w at low volumes. The speaker isn't even really broken in yet, and every day I can hear it getting sweeter and sweeter. Sometimes it amazes me how gently people use their gear....how do you have any fun that way?

Ordered a couple of JJ 5751's to try to tame the gain a bit...it gets a bit ridiculous with the gain set anywhere past noon IMO. Never tried lower-gain preamp tubes before, always just gone with 12AX7's (JJ or Mullard RI's) so I'm excited to hear the difference, if any, it will make.

:shock:Wow, that'll be like a Bloody Caesar without the Tabasco sauce. Keep us posted, I'm curious about the results.

Got my 5751's in the mail today.

First I tried it with them in both positions, but it was a bit too clean and bright. Tried it next with a 5751 in V1 and a Mullard RI in V2

WOW!!!

The result is exactly what I was hoping for - it took the muddiness out of the gain control, before if I had it above 10 o clock it just sounded mushy. Now I can run it at about noon and it sounds fuller and clearer than it did before.

If you tend to use the amp at low volumes with the gain set higher, this is probably not the configuration for you. My settings are ALWAYS: Vol - Max, Tone - 11 o clock, Gain - 11-12 o clock. I get almost all of my saturation out of the output tubes, sounds killer this way - halfway between a plexi and an AC30. Absolute heaven.

Can't wait for my power tubes to show up, they should be here by the end of the week.

Loving the amp now with the ruskie 6P14P-K's in place - they took away some of the harshness of the stock/dying chinese EL84s, it sounds quite a bit warmer and fatter.

Matched tubes? pfffft.
