Bought an AD30 twin channel head, and was going to run it through a beater cab, but thought I would regret not buying the orange cab, so I got an open backed 2x12 to match.

This amp has the complete classic rock tone down..and can pour on the gain surprisingly well, but I prefer a mild overdrive. It's a perfect companion to my blues deville, and I've got all the tone I need at the moment....until I eye the next thing

NICE!! CONGRATS!!!

I've been most impressed with Orange. I've always felt a fondness for the whole look and mystique of the brand. You were wise to also pick up a 212.

I just saw that you are new to the Forum, so Welcome as well!

Congrats, I bet sounds as great as it looks. Enjoy!

Curious: Did you compare Closed with Open Back on the cabinet?

Yep, I played both the open and closed back cabs. I think the open back sounds a little looser, still tight in the midrange and still has the signature orange kids. The closed back was too directional and bassy...not too mention weighed almost twice as much. I think the closed back works better for the rockerverb series and higher gain models, but that's just what my ears told me. I also play a couple of bars where they don't mix anything, and I hope the open back will help the sound fill the room better

Congrats on your NAD, and welcome to the forum! :welcome:

Be sure to cruise on over to the introductions forum and post a thread about yourself.

I am more of a traditional tube amp guy, but starting to grow appreciation of the Orange amp line, even the SS ones!

Thanks, really glad I went with this one. I had played the rockerverb before and while I liked it, it wasn't something I needed. When I played the ad30 it had exactly the tone I was looking for and I surprisingly like the clean tones as wel. The only problem...to the dismay of this forum....is im loving the sound of my tele through it, my studio sounds great as well, but it's made me start playing the tele more.

Now...I've got my eyes on a Dr. Z maz 18, it never ends!

Congrats, I have one too and it does the classic rock thing perfectly indeed.
Mine sits on top of a closed 2x12" with Celestion Heritage G12H-55 speakers (the "Hendrix" ones).

You're going to have to burn that Tele. The mods will probably send you a pm later, but just be forewarned. They're not very good anyway. ;)
I've played a Maz 18 and I wasn't ready for what it sounded like, and I played it sitting right in front of it in a small room at True Tone Music. I could tell it was a cool amp, well-built, sounded great, but it just landed wrong on my earholes. I bet it's great on a stage, or maybe by golly, I just don't care for it. I do know that my friend plays his lap steel through a Maz 36 and it's incredible, but that was on a stage.
It's possible that I need to go try one again, although I won't buy one, as I've got all I need and plan to build more. :thumb:
It's just good fun to play different amps. :)

There is just something about the AD30 tone. Very nice! I have one channel less but love the MV and gain dial. I've only ever played mine through 25W Green backs and they sound great. Post some
sound clips if you can.

I'll work on those sound clips...I am interested in the idea of greenbacks with the AD30. The brand new cab still needs time for the Vintage 30's to break in, its quite the process. I think the speakers sound great, but am hoping they keep getting better as they break in. I don't V30's with most other amps, so maybe greenbacks would make the cab more versatile....for an AC15 head or something :)

I had a AD30 dual channel for a while, still miss it sometimes. Really like the Rockerverb I have now but the AD30 does such a great breakup sound. Agreed with what you said about the tele-AD30 connection, my tele with P90's sounded especially good through it.
