After some months of hemming and hawing and trying to navigate the dizzying array of Marshall options available I finally settled on a VM. I felt it had the best characteristics of the older Plexis while allowing a bit more modern (as in, 1978-->) bite and gain.

I found this cosmetically modified head used at Guitar Center for a very good price:

The chicken head knobs look pretty good to me, and honestly I never liked Marshall's front panel anyway.

I then scored a new condition 1960ax for a great price, and now I have a half-stack!

I got to play with it a bit yesterday. The VM controls are VERY interactive and it will take me some time to get where I like. I found it was easier to dial in a "clasic" sound with the strat than it was with the LP, which was surprising. It will be fun to work with for sure.

Congratulations. I have the same amp. I use the matching 425A cab.

It can be a learning curve to find your settings. Absolutely stunning at volume if you are able to turn up the master.

Enjoy.
