Tone report coming soon and a bunch of shootouts, speaker swaps and demos. So far she sounds awesome through her cab and the Scumback H55/RedFang I have. She seems to prefer the Weber Mass over the Unleash though. A Lamar ppimv might free up the need for either....

Can't keep my JTM45, 64 Super Reverb, and Phaez SIBLY so something will be for sale sometime soon along with two speakers I dont end up keeping.

Congrats! That's a killer rig you got there. I love my JTM 45 clone. I really like that cab, it looks great with that cloth on the front. Let me be the first to have dibs on what you sell!

Congrats. I have one too. Mine has MM trannies. I finished the build on 1/1/11. I'm too lazy to take gut shots right now. Next time I bias it I will. :thumb:

Any value changes or mods in your build?

I will be testing a few tweaks and posting the results.

Nope, no mods to mine. I did install CC resistors in the signal path though. They were a $15 upcharge.

But a good JTM-45 is a beautiful thing......and George's are !

The 64 has 70s cts alnicos that Fender put in while servicing in 73. Someone must have liked the "new" SF amps. I'd say there isnt a big chance the 64 is going anywhere and more of a Phaez vs Metro suitability decision.

Great amp !!!!

Ive got the LTD ED GMP45 that George built 6-13. I bought it slightly used, less than 20 hours on it, and NOS GEC KT66s.

I replaced the CP Pramp tubes, and Rectifier that were in it, with NOS Mullard Master Series Gold 12AX7s and 57-58 SQ Getter Mullard Long Plate. Ive got the 10M in v1 and 2 50s Long Plates in v2 x v3, and a 61 Fat Base GZ34/5AR4.

For a less than 50 Watt amp, and Tube Rectified, this is my hands down favorite amp of all time.

It was a bit noisy, and the tubes were a bit microphonic, when I got it, but now its as quiet as a mouse. I did have a 10M in v2, but swapped it out the other day for the longplate, because I like to use 10M in v1 because it is a Very Quiet tube with large bandwidth and a touch of midrange warmth. It sounds almost indistinguishable from the LP, but is inherently more quiet, thue why I am saving for a v1 replacement.

I also bought some NOS 50's Osram Marconi KT66 and installed them, and have the GECs that came with it for backups. My other backup tubes besides the 10M are 2 NOS Mullard I61's, and another Mullard 61 Fat Base Rectifier.

For speakers I use many different combinations, as Ive been lucky enough to have stockpiled speakers over the years from as far back as the early 70s.

At the moment ( for the last 1.5 years ) im experimenting with Hemp Coned JBL E120's in 1 x 12 cabinets, with removable backs. Original 4 x 12 x 1972 Pulsonic cone Celestion G12M, 25 watt x 75hz cone, in an old Sound City cabinet, and 2 x 15 Altec Lansing 418H.

Well she didn't stay untouched for long but that was always the idea

Lamar PPIMV with PEC pot from Valvestorm
LarMar Master Volume Checklist | ValveStorm

Always buy more than you need

modified JTM45 instructions for from panel (got rid of normal 2 input)

Zoom/Full Size

Hadnt reconnected normal 1 yet but you get the idea

Will post all amp demos here but after a quick test I dont need an attenuator. The taper is fantastic.

Still researching whether a loop is feasible on the jtm45 vs some of the other models that are supported

We officially support this loop when installed in Marshall 1959, 1987, 2203 and 2204 models, also authentic replicas of these amps.

Two Questions Sir,

1) Aren't those 20 watt greenbacks just a tad shy on power handling for that amp? it would certainly be a shame to damage such historic "GLORY" tone!

2) How the fork did you get your hands on a kit from "THE GEORGE" or was it an older build/kit from a few years back?

George is definitely one of my heroes!

The jtm45 is a 30w amp. I bet that at full volume you are not around 40w. So still safe Imoo.

Yeah, but I was guesstimating more like 45-50 at full ****/tilt through 2 very old and somewhat fragile speakers. Still a pretty close call and given his talk of attenuators and PPIMV, he's likely fairly safe.

Still, my other more important/burning question remains unanswered!

Oh,
And FWIW, hereis an interesting read and synapsis of the widely varied differences in how amp jumpering actually works. The article is referring to a Fender, but is generally identical to a JYM45, except possibly the cathode treatment:

https://robrobinette.com/How_Fender_Input_Jacks_Work.htm

FYI, check out this guys whole series of stuff regarding tube amps. Very clear, useful and informative stuff! His insights combined with a watch of Uncle Doug's series of videos provide a good bit of enlightenment. You still need to do a little bit of reading between the lines, though.

Currently rockin the Scumback H55 (60w) and Eminence Red Fang (50w) as I am spending time directly comparing it to the Phaez. I would be concerned about cranking a 30w amp in 40w of speaker all night long but I dont cant get loud in my apartment.

Lamar PPIMV - headphones a must....sounded terrible through my laptop though this isnt a tone demo

1:36 my apartment settings (still tweaking)
4:24 without attenutor max
6:20 normal channel fun
9:10 dimed individual channels

I am loving this thing...there is always a bit of clean poking through. Chimey awesomeness. Tone, tweaks, and gear demos soon.
