I could see it if they were PAFs. I been at this stuff a long damn time and I STILL to this day do not see nor hear what there is in a Pat # or a Shaw that makes them worth what people are willing to pay for them.

It's all about perception.

I too have been at this for a long time, and can physically hear the differences between PAFs, Shaws/T-Tops, and modern pickups ('57 Classics, BBs, etc). The overall mistique, is WHY they are so different that makes them so appealing.

I feel the need to put my 2 cents in , since I'm a bit of a Pickup Pig myself :naughty:

It really depends on when the Pat.#'s pups were made , doesn't it ? . With Early Pat.#s (first offering) there is almost no difference between the Late PAF's and The Early Pat.#'s . Less the sticker. So why pay more (double) for the sticker?
The middle years of Early Pat.#'s are still close (in tone) to PAF's, but a little different . I happen to like them more than PAF's . The sound is more focused , Imo . And yes, i've tested both back to back, same guitar. The last offerings of Early Pat.#'s were a different animal . I really doubt anyone could
tel the difference between the 2 , listening to them being played at a live setting (Band, club, concert etc.)

Imo, The relative prices for the different pups make them worth considering compared to the cost Of PAF's . PAF prices are nuts Imo.
A late 60's- early 70's Pat.# doesn't cost the same as a 61 Early Pat. # either . Not even close .

Shaws , 15 years ~ later (1980 -'87? ) . Nice pups but not PAF's . Yup, I have a set of them too. They don't sell for much money now.

I think it would be nice if the OP told us what the pickups in the picture are .:hmm: alot of conclutions with very little Info.

Set far left is from a 68 175, next to those came from 65 sg, lower right 64 355 if I remember correctly. rest came from sporatic guitars over the years. I use them when i get guitars that need original parts and sell some off. im not looking for love, just sharing what i got in case people needed them, I didnt think I was gonna need to defend a post nor will I.

Don't take it the wrong way.

I'm the white fly 'round here, as I don't consider old p'ups or instruments a thing of desire. Which it could be considered ironic, for as a guitar tech, I prepare many vintage instruments for shows in my neck of woods every year.

To each its own.
