I’m an “in the case” guy when not playing them for this very reason. It’s just an accident waiting to happen. Either some catastrophic failure like this happens or someone/something knocks them down. Luckily for me I learned early on with cheap guitars on stands (ie, being knocked over) and once it got my first Gibson vowed never to leave one on a stand or wall hanger.

We are turning our basement into a living space (in-home Irish pub, TV room, guitar room) and my wife said, “We should hang your guitars on the wall, they’d look great.” To which I replied, “Nope, not gonna happen!” :)
Totally agree with this. For me, hanging guitars look cool, but they are an accident waiting to happen or they appear as an open invitation for someone to touch. No bueno.

OP, sorry your guitar fell. Clearly, your wall hanger installation needs to be reevaluated. In the meantime, take your guitar to a luthier and have it fixed.

Lots if people mount a wood board to the studs, then mount the hanger to the wood.

Thats how I hang mine. Mounted using screws and "No More Nails" glue. Before using "No More Nails" you'll want to make sure you aren't in to changing your mind much. It will pull the drywall right off trying to remove it. 3 of my guitars hang on the wall and 3 on stands on the floor in front. My 3 lightest guitars are on the wall hangers. My 2 Martin Authentic acoustics and a brad paisley silver tele. So I wouldn't expect any problems.

Hi everyone, heard a Big Bang last night and to my horror found that my Slash LP had fallen of the wall due to my atrocious DIY skills!
I thought I had gotten away without any damage and how the neck didn’t snap I have no idea, I’ve got laminate flooring in the room. I noticed today however that it must have landed on the tail piece and has driven the stud into the body on the treble side.

There are no cracks so has anyone else had this happen and can I just drag the stud back in to it’s proper place?
And I am so impressed it’s ability to withstand such a drop.
Oh man, I’m so sorry to hear that. At least it seems like it could have been worse.

This is a wake up call to me. I have guitar hangers that take three screws. I used three butterfly screw anchors on each but some are pulling away, as if the threads are unwinding from the weight. I have a 160 year old 2x8 that I pulled from the wall of the house when I made the ceiling cathedral. I will use that board.

Check out the hanger on the far right. You can tell that it’s getting wonky. I currently do not have a guitar on that one.

Board to the studs, then holders spaced however you see fit. I never trust drywall even with drywall anchors.

Glad the damage wasn't worse. As mentioned above I would try to work the bushing to the height it was, I would adjust the stud to the appropriate height. Then give everything a good inspection when you change the strings.
Thanks for the advice, I was really expecting a broken headstock at the least.

This is how I do it and check the integrity of the hangers when I take it off or place it back on.

I think I would die inside if one of my guitar fell off.

That really sucks. Sorry it happened but glad the damage wasn't worse.

I've got 15 guitars hanging on the walls, including some weighing 10lb +. I screwed every wall hanger into a stud. The String Swing brand uses two screws, but I have a couple that only use one screw. Lightweight guitars only on those two.

That’s why I don’t understand how it happened, they are screwed in to a solid wall with 3 screws each, and I’ve had various guitars on it for the last 20 years, had to be the Gibson ☹️

This massive cabinet, and another one slightly smaller, have been my primary guitar storage vehicles for many years.

Before this I tried every manner of hanging guitars, racks on the floor along one wall, racks on a couple of banquet tables to get the guitars off the floor so I had storage underneath, you name it.

I could’ve bought a nice Les Paul for what I paid for those two cabinets, but they have been well worth it.

I have several ancient Rock Stand racks by Warwick, and they have held up really well.
I bought new 100% cotton bath towels at Walmart, my wife cut them down and added Velcro fasteners to cover all of the foam rubber.
They are a cinch to pull off and throw in the washer.
(They do collect dust.)

Few day ago the entire assembly fell down to a PRS forum member.
a dozen damaged guitars, thousands of dollars of damages ...

Lesson learned:
let's stop using those f...ed wall hangers ...
