No such thing as a "good year". You'll love the Historic vs. the Trad you had, great upgrade!! Congrats!

A guitar it is not a bottle of wine, there is not "good years" or "great years", only great, good and bad guitars.

Also, that's just the production year, that doesn't always match with the year that wood has been cut...and still, the year that wood has been cut, tell you nothing about how good that wood is...
Congrats for your new R8, we wait for pics! :cheers2:

They're all over the place, but I think batches probably have a little in common with each other, bodies from the same tree etc... I will say it took me a LONG time to find an R guitar that was worth my $ and it was a '16 R8. It is a Wilson era CS guitar though and down the road I think they'll hold value better than other time of construction LP's. Congrats and enjoy!

Agree with the above... no such thing as good years or bad years. Although I will say that 2013 and after, they just kept adding more "authentic" features, ranging from dish carve, neck profiles, dyes, hide glue, binding scrape, "bleed", paint, and pickups. There are LOTS of great Historics from years prior, but my personal reference would be for something 2013 and after. Congrats on the R8. You'll love it.
