My first LP build

Have been following this very useful forum for quite a while and this is my first post.

After quitting my current hi-tech job a year ago, fall 2017, I thought I'd need some nice stuff to tinker with, to get my thoughts out of endless workforce reductions and budget cuts. So, as a hobby musician, I ended up to start an ambitious project to build an LP. Although I had no previous experience of guitar building, still had long experience of woodworking and RC model airplane building. So, after getting the permission from wife (she did not yet know what it will be like when the husband gets obsessed of guitar building), I joined my home town's almost-free-of-charge luthiery course, having a teacher and good machinery at hand once a week.

I bought mahogany wood for single piece body from local luthier, and managed to get a decent piece of neck wood as well. Living in Finland, I managed to buy cheap a very nice piece of Arctic flamed birch, for the carved top. I knew it will be not the same as the maple, but hell, why not use the wood that grows almost at you back yard?

For the build, everything was new to me and I needed lots of tips and guidance from local luthiers and the teacher. When my skills increased, I gained self confidence and also grabbed a lot of more knowhow by following this forum. Furthermore, I spotted the Freddy G's great "Building Les Pauls" and ExNihilo's LP build videos from youtube, which I then wached over and over again.

Here are some pics from the build and of the ready-made guitar. It plays great and sounds excellent! Sustain is something that I have only dreamed of earlier.

more HW and build details will be posted later on this thread.

Thanks for the great forum and support!

very very nice. well done indeed. how long have you been building.
This is my first build. The build took approx for a year probably >200 work hours... This one year included a summer break, I stopped the LP completely while I did a terrace project. This is my first build ever, from wood blank to finished guitar so it took more time than what I expected. In past, I built and finished a strat kit to my son a few years ago, and during the LP build, I quickly (as a side project) built a JB to my dad for a 70year-bday gift, to get more confidence for the finishing, fretwork etc.

that guitar is quite an achievement for an amatuer build at any level, but a super amazing first build. kudos to you for the attention to detail often overlooked in early builds to hasten something that looks like a guitar (guilty, pointing back at me). I have my eyes on you. can't wait to see your next one.

nice guitar build, you might want to remove the headstock pics though.
