I know...lately I haven't engaged in a whole helluva lot of levity...but I did want to give a shout out to "my favorite MLP members".

Now before I go any further...I will openly admit...they're not necessarily the people I enjoy exchanging messages with the most....they're not atypically even "A" personality types. And in many circumstances.....they're even worse in the personality department than I am! :laugh2:

But...I still have to give 'em props.

There are a lot of great, great people who post here...but since Day 1 I've sort of had this belief that what REALLY sets MLP apart from so many other forums are the people with some serious expertise who post here. Be it the garage hobbyists, the professional musicians, the luthiers, the pickup winders, the electronic experts, the amp builders and modders...long and short, the folks who have been around forever or who HAVE gotten their hands dirty and offer the valuable advice to people like me....

I'll openly admit that before coming to THIS place and finding so many knowledgeable folks....it was like a wasteland at other forums.

And sure, I'm here to laugh, be entertained, but I'm also here to learn...and since joining MLP a while back I've probably learned more about Les Pauls (and guitars ingeneral) HERE vs. any other forum I've been to. And I really, really have to give credit to the experts who've helped me with my guitars, amps, and other gear when it came to time to make a decision while seeking a second opinion.

There's a lot of silliness here...but make no mistake...what's at the heart of MLP...and what makes it a great place...is that there are people here who can answer the tough questions, the professionals, the experts.

The list is too long to type out. But either way...

I just wanted to say...Thanks, guys.

You've taught me a lot. Thanks for taking some time out to hang with us, put up with our BS, and share your valuable knowledge.

It really is appreciated.

Seriously this is a great place to hang out even though I bow out a couple months at a time to get away from the "DRAMA" that builds up here from time to time.

Hell I need a break from you guys on occasion anyways.

Eh, I'll admit it...the drama DOES build up...

But, that's not what brought most of us here, you know? I suspect a lot of us came here after we purchased Les Paul guitars, or sought others with some knowledge on the subject.

I still believe that's the heart and soul of MLP. It ain't the drama...it's people seeking help, and getting help from some of the most knowledgeable posters out there.

That's really what makes this place "tick". Yeah...we all have fun and games, but if the hard questions couldn't be answered, then Flick's right...it's just another forum.

MLP is more than that because of the craftsmen and experts who come here...and help people like me out. (and it's the folks who do full refrets, build guitars, build their own amplifiers...or do something cool and unique with their gear.)

Seriously....those folks are great!

:hmm:

Unless I'm mistaken Shifty, don't you help out quite a bit of people who are trying to buy Epi's and aren't sure if it's a real or a fake one? Don't you also have quite a bit of firsthand knowledge on the MIJ single cutaway brands such as Tokai?

Dude...you really are one of the people who makes this forum "go"....

On a serious note...

OK, I've talked some smack. Some other people have too. Some people are wondering :wtf: is going on with the forums.

Well....I sorta posted this thread to sort of say "Hey, you know...isn't this what this place is really all about?"

you know, it's so true..I appreciate the incredible craftsmen and others who have great knowledge on guitars at MLP..they make the place that much more awesome..
I think of this thread that Roman did http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/epiphone-les-pauls/14714-complete-epi-custom-setup.html.. it's incredible and a shining example of why this place is great

Oh man...that's a great thread, isn't it? I don't know of any other site that has something like that, or someone like Roman who contributed so much to threads like that one. :dude:

I have been inspired to put music back into a more prominent position in my life thanks to many members here; from teens through folks even older than I; from bedroom noodlers through lifetime professionals to rock stars. It's meant a lot to me.

And yeah, I've learned a few things about care and maintenance too. A tip o' the ol' cowboy hat to all.

I love it here. You guys rock. The political bullshit is pretty annoying, but it's great aside from that. :D

Stranger, you really give out a lot, and I mean a LOT of killer advice as a working musician. Don't sell yourself short, dude.....

You know, River...you know a lot of stuff, man. And you're very good at doing summations on debates, and playing the Devil's Advocate if need be. A lot of times you're the voice of common sense in a lot of these threads that go down. That is really appreciated by me....

I'm there with ya, Jason. What I like about you...YOU have a lot of knowledge, and you're the Quintessential critic. I really take a lot of your opinions and advice (and even arguments) at face value because I don't really think you're one of the posters out there that's so loyal to a brand or model that it doesn't allow for open and honest debate on a topic. It's good stuff, man.... (and you've never struck me as someone who isn't also learning while debating...I really dig that, because it allows for even better debate.)

I try - thanks for the acknowledgment.

I was lucky enough when I was a kid to have some kickass musicians around me who saw the value in passing the knowledge on. If I remembered one thing that they taught me, that was it. Maybe my dopey stories will help somebody here somewhere along the line. That's what musicians are supposed to do - get the young ones ready for the road they've chosen.

+1. It's nice to have a stable personality amid all the chaos. :thumb:

TS, I really appreciate how you share your experiences as a working musician with great detail and honesty. I've read just about every thread you've created on the subject, even the ones I haven't replied to. All that stuff gives me a lot to think about as I am preparing to get out and perform myself. You're also good at getting conversations started even when nobody else is talking... and finding slightly new angles on old topics, just to keep things flowing. You're quite a player too, even if you won't admit it. You know you're out there entertaining people while most of us folks are sitting at the computer squabbling over petty crap... :laugh2:

River, you've been a great inspiration as I continue to record and work on my music in a more constructive way. You've also got a cool head and a very developed sense of reason. Some days it may feel like we're experiencing a lack of it (reason) around here, but I think that's just because those who don't have it make up for it with "volume".

Donny, you've got a similar sense of reason and a fairly cool head (for a New Yorker, anyway :naughty:)... and your experience in the business is priceless. And you're a monster player as well. :dude:

Flick, you seem like a cool guy from the brief conversations we've had. I get the feeling that you and I are in a similar place in our heads right now, what with that yearning to get back into our creative outlets full swing... and coping with the stress of never getting that precious alone time to do so. I realize you've got a job to do here as well, and from what I've seen you do a pretty good job of it. BB too. :thumb:

I could go off about other members too, but I figured I'd just stick to the ones that I saw were "here" for now. :D

v8ko, your band rocks and you seem like a friendly dude. :thumb:

shifty, you seem like a nice guy. You just never say anything controversial, so you blend in a bit. :laugh2:

blake, your guitar pickin' skills are only outmatched by your compassion for others. Regardless of our differences in beliefs, I think we share many of the same values and you are very good about considering the feelings of others.

I thank all you guys for making this a cool place. I second, third, and fourth all the sentiments. Yeah, we get a bit loopy at times, but hell, in 8 short months I've seen a lot of good happen here.
