so, I was just messing around over a stupid "jam" I wrote really fast to do some testing on some new vst plugins.....and I played the jazz minor and the Lydian b7 together...I am sure many people have experienced the wonders of this...

so here is little example: SoundClick artist: glunk - page with MP3 music downloads

I thought someone would say how wonderful to be able to get so many alt notes and great passing tones but alas no one has...as always, as hippies say, all good

What do you mean by playing them together? Did you mix the notes from both scales? What do those scales look like (guide me to a reference site)? Did you use one on a track and record the other on over it? Sounded good to me but it might be too high brow for the masses.

jazz minor: la ti do ra mi fi si la, 1 2 b3 4 5 #6 #7, C D Eb F G A B C.

lydian b2 starts on 4th degree of jazz minor modes but, in this case I started on the same note (c): re mi fi si la ti do ri, 1 2 3 #4 5 6 7, C D E F# G A Bb C.

so, by moving in and out of these two scales I was able to get some really nice stuff happening.

all the notes would look like this: C D Eb E F F# G A Bb B C. I would not think like that but, about how each scales resolves itself and hear interesting note resolutions (that also function as dissonces at the same time when moving from one to the other). Each scale has an interesting sound and as you push them together and separate them you get a lot of movement: at least over a static c minor vamp.

...all the notes would look like this: C D Eb E F F# G A Bb B C...

Interesting (to me at least :)) to notice that you could arrive at the same result by combining Dorian & Lydian:

Dorian: C D Eb F G A Bb

Lydian: C D E F# G A B

combined = C D Eb E F F# G A Bb B

Funny how these things happen isn't it? Whatever - it was sounding cool in your clip.

cool...never thought of that dorian lydian thing,

when thinking (or hearing in my head) church modes, usually over a minor I would play the typical: aeolian, dorian, phrygian and use the pentatonics to be able to play out and also move into the jazz minor but, in my mind lydian is a major thing...

so is lydian b7 but it occurs at the same(ish) spot as the dorian so, what happen was I was playing the jazz minor and went to the dorian mode in the aeolian area and said why not try the lydian b2

and when I heard four chromatic notes in a row I thought this is cool..and how they line up in the aeolian/jazz minor area was just such a nice fingering, I liked it...

wether or not I do it again who knows...I will have to see if it becomes a regular thing or not...

I had completely forgotten I did that...I guess it did not work it's way into my playing.....
